Now see, I figured the nude bowlers would be a draw! Don't the aliens strip you down and do all kinds of tests and such on you?? I wouldn't know, of course!

Ooooh... That's a disturbing image That would scare me. Speaking of aliens, has the group seen the u toob video that's all the buzz? Washington Post this morning described it as "scary" Here's a link to a much less scary version produced by TV's Craig Ferguson. For those with more fortitude look up 5002269 on the goo-gul

It was a dry cleaners bag, held open with a structure of soda straws, with a small candle at the junction of the straws making just enough heat -- and light to reflect off the plastic -- to keep the thing aloft for a bit and give a confusing visual signature.

I snagged it just before it either hit ground or the plastic caught on fire and snuffed the candle...
That's a great story... When I was a kid one of the neighborhood nerds would make "floaters" just like you describe, except with a carefully taped together toilet paper balloon about three feet high and a sterno can underneath (DO NOT TRY THIS AT HOME). They would go really high and would eventually catch on fire up in the sky. He caused more than a few "incidents" for the county police to investigate. He was never caught.

That's awesome, I used to read a lot of comic books

I heard that Texas story on NPR too.
Supposedly a couple was abducted by aliens along some little-used road in the White Mtns.
Not Maine but close :-)
It's been a long time since I read the details but I think this refers to it:
The Hill Abduction - UFO Evidence

I never, in my wildest dreams (and they are pretty wild, believe me! LOL) imagined that I would ever be part of a legend...

I think the dry cleaner bags work better than the TP.. but then we were in the land of CalTech... where the geeks always try to outdo the competition!

We also had our share of "photo evidence".. the one I remember most vividly was a "doctored" Frisbee that was thrown and photographed.. I guessed the likely "vehicle" and secured one of my own to shoot photos of on the UCLA quad... the youngsters who took the original photo willingly "identified" my photos as being of a similar "vehicle" and then quickly "fessed up" when I produced the shoe polish-modified model from my briefcase...

Some of my friends still call me "Ms X-files" LOL

It was a fun period in my life... I was a college student working shoulder-to-shoulder with PhDs like Dr. Hynek... being taken seriously for the method I came up with for collecting data... every young person should have such an experience.

OK, now I *have* to believe that there are UFOs and aliens, and that they took TC and scrambled his brains...either that, or he has one heckuva good mix of Sensimilla, hash and PCP in his bong and has slept with his head in the oven one too many times.

on December 26, 1989 while my husband and I were enjoying the first quiet time in a couple of hectic Holidays, we noticed a the bright light over the 3 acre Island about 300 yards in front of our lake home. This was not unusual as we often saw plane activity, but this was bright and not moving. Finally we both decided to go out and take a closer look, and to our surprise saw a triangular craft with two large round lights, resembling the gas burner of a stove, and a circular motion of smaller lights on the bottom of the craft, and a big bright light near the top. The body of the craft was dark. It hovered close to the tree tops quietly, not moving. Than suddenly and slowly moved toward us, but jetted off (quietly) and amazingly fast. We agreed to not discuss it, knowing no one would believe us. WE called the airport to see if any military crafts were in the area that night, they said no. We always believed it was a military craft of some kind, but can understand how people can get freaked out by something like this when they see it.
