Across the road from Crystal mall they have expanded and built another strip mall. And behind Crystal mall, are also two new strip malls.
Casinos don't stop residents from needing shoes.
The area has a lot of immigrants now. Both casinos import most of their workers. Once they ran through all of the local work-force, they began hiring in NYC, Puerto Rico and Yugoslavia. Bringing a lot of trained and experienced casino workers into the area. Rent levels have gone up, and the local schools are packed.
Since EB shutdown most of their shifts and laid off 5,000 welders and pipe-fitters the area was really depressed. Then the Pfizer napalm plant shut down to a skeleton crew, did not help. The Subase lost 25 subs and shutdown most of the schools that ran on-base, the base is now down to a very small clusters of schools and only six subs. A lot of the Federal money that once supported the area is gone.
The casinos have been bringing in a lot of money from neighboring states.
The renters in my apartment building in Norwich are all casino employees.

Thank you for your good explanation. I have to remind myself that the mid 90's I remember is quiet awhile ago My memories begin in the 80's when Ronald Reagan was spending the Soviet Union into its destruction. (And yes the Crystal Mall was the one I was thinking about). When Ohio was at EB there were several sisters there in various stages as well a several Los Angeles class projects. The place was humming, three shifts a day, 24/7. The last time I was there during the mid 90's I observed a single man making sparks on top of a hull from my vantage point across the river. Formerly there were hundreds (thousands?) bustling around the yard.
It's good to hear about today's success's. I really need to get back there for a visit.
Best Regards,
qw

A careless word may kindle strife.
A cruel word may wreck a life.
A timely word may level stress.
A loving word may heal and bless.

Man's basic problem is the integrity of God's Word
Many folks want to serve God, but only as advisers.

Men go into the Navy ... thinking they will enjoy it. they do for about a year, at least the stupid ones do, riding back and forth quite dully on ships. The bright ones find they don't like it in about a year. But there's always the thought of that pension if only they stay in ... gradually they become crazy. Crazier and crazier. Only the navy has no way of distinguishing between the sane and the insane. Only about 5% of the ... Navy have the sea in their veins. They are the ones who become captains ... the maddest of these become admirals - Shaw, 1950

If you're a kid and collect baseball cards, they are keepsakes of your idols.
If you're a grown man, they are pictures of men.

Mistakes at least show someone did something at sometime
More people are opposed to fur than leather, because it's easier to harrass rich women, than biker gangs
Multitasking: Make twice the mistakes in half the time
