Diagnosing the heater's problem would cost more than the blue book value of the vehicle.

Can't you get one of those 12 volt heaters that run off the lighter???
Or even a 12 volt hair dryer....better than nothing!

Have you looked around for used ones at junkyards to replace it instead of diagnosing it? Or Maineah's suggestions sound good too.

He just likes to bi**h about that car...It's been broken for years. Here's a post from last March about the same thing...
forest beekeeper:
It is not so bad. If it ever got really cold here, then sure. But so far the temps have not gotten terribly cold here.
I just drive with hat, coat, and gloves on. No big deal.
Obviously I would prefer to have heat. Mostly for the windows and windshield. My breath ices up on the glass real quick some times.
I have a squirt bottle of de-icer and a squeegy handy. Just a squirt and an occasional swipe with the squeegy keeps the windows pretty well cleared up.
At least he's consistent!

Some friends of ours had the heater go out in their Saab recently. They ended up taking it to the dealer in Warren (they live in Blue Hill) and just got it back this week. They spent $1500 and this included getting a new cover on the trunk replaced, but they may have already bought that part separate. I'll ask them on Sat. when we see them.

That place in Warren is the best around. I'll bet O'Connor Imports (formerly Clyde Billing Saab) in Augusta could do it too. They have some real experts there. We have been taking our Saabs there for 25 years.

Yes I do have one, it heats an area about a foot in diameter of the windshield.

Actually we were very much pleased with the car until the heater died.
My Dw commutes 6 days a week to work, so she was using it to get in to work.
Since the saab heater died, she bought a new car for commuting. [our first ever brand new current year vehicle]
I junked my previous car [a buick station wagon] and began driving the saab.

Just razzin ya forest! I wouldn't like driving a car with no heater either. Though I did at one time. It was a VW bug that had no heat at all....fun car!
