Is there ever still drag racing on the runway there, or is it ever open to the public?

Two different summer things: land speed racing (time trials) are held twice a summer. They attract racers from all over north America.
The Cumberland Auto Club also hosts a time-trial "Auto X" every summer. That's with a set course to navigate.

A famous Maine real estate broker went over 200 MPH on the runway last summer - on his motorcycle!

There was a Phish concert there a few years ago. The Phish fans bought all the beer in Lincoln. That was ALL the beer. A truckload was brought up from Bangor and they bought all that beer - by the case - off the truck as fast as they could. The 20 tons of beer was gone in minutes because they Phish fans heard that all the stores north of Lincoln had no beer. To the best of my knowledge, I have never heard a Phish song.

Should I be sorry that I missed it?

Anyone remember when Loring AFB was active? Those B-52 take offs must have been exciting for some people.
