Alot of work is available in the Portland area but I am not sure the pay is going to match the cost of living in that area. Check Stinson canning Portland fish mkt Vessel services and O hara for jobs

Default Rentals in Maine

Hi Katrina,
There are a lot of rentals in Maine. As far as the cost of rentals it all depends on where you want to rent, how many bedrooms you need and if you are looking to have certain things such as hot water included in your rent or not. My husband and I just rented an apartment this past weekend to move into in December. It is not in the Portland area it is in the Bangor area. Portland tends to be more expensive I believe. The apartment we rented is $600/month and includes heat but not electricity/hot water. It is small and is only 1 bedroom. We could have rented something cheaper but the areas were not as nice.
You would be smart to check with some rental agencies or get a local paper or find one online and call about some of the apartments, find what areas they are in and then ask about those areas.
Like I said, I am not from the Portland area and don't know a lot about it, I have been there many times but not to live. I hope you can find the information you are looking for. Where are you from?

you could check craigslist.com and go to "Maine" then go to "rentals". Just punch in different areas for rental prices. I own property in Lewiston (Downtown). My large 3-4 bedroom apts go for 635 to 700. That includes heat. I don't believe the downtown Lewiston area is a great place to raise kids though. Not sure how jobs are. Lewiston used to be a mill city, but that has changed now.

Portland apts. are around 800 and up for a 2 bedroom I believe. I could be off a little.
