thanks NMLM, the stove from Lehman is huge. I will have to looking for some thing smaller.
Just don't want to be in the situation where the insurance co. will not insure the house or premium is too high.

Quote:
Many Mainers still use the old wood stoves made in 1895 or so. They were popular up until the 1930s when electric stoves became popular. You can buy brand new wood cook stoves from Lehmans along with kerosene and gas lamps of all kinds. Now they are popular again.

Lehman's - Products for Simple, Self-sufficient Living

It is perfectly OK to use these stoves and they are Underwriter approved.
Zymer: It does make a different to the insurance co. in many area.

I don't think the insurance co. makes any distinctions, you either have a woodstove or you don't.

Thanks so much for the info.

I will likely be looking to buy one! What do they want for it and where is it (general area)? I hauled an 1901 Home Comfort out of a barn in WI, cleaned the squirrel manure out and set it up in our place in WA state. It was a most wonderful stove!

My wife wants one of these:

A 'Bakers' Choice Cookstove'

Wood or coal loads through top lid or gasketed front door. 7-gallon reservoir.

Cook on top, bake inside, and it heats your water.
