Default Thinking of Moving to Maine? Please Read.....

Hello,

If you are thinking of moving to Maine (or any other section of the country) but wish to know a bit more about the area you are considering, I suggest you make it a habit every day of reading the on-line editions of the newspapers serving those areas. If you read the local paper for a couple for weeks, you'll get a good idea of what the area is like and what's going on in and around town.

What was said at the last planning board or selectmans meeting? Any new laws in town? Any building moratoriums in the works?

Also, follow the on-going discussions in each paper's Editorial and letter-to-the-editor section, it'll illustrate the local concerns and give you an idea of what the residents think about them.

Some papers allow free search of old news stories. Search their archives for subjects of interest that are important to you.

Read between the lines and keep in mind the slant and how the stories (or letters) are written. Sometimes what's not said is just as important as what is.

The link below points to a list of Maine newspapers (copy and the link into your browser's address window).. you may have to check each paper to see if it covers your town . Good luck! ScotchPine

Here's another web site that lists more papers, but it has pop-up ads ....
