Default Looking for good information sources on moving and living in Maine

My wife and I are planning to move to Maine in a few years. Actually as soon as our older children graduate from High School.

We would like to know if there are some magazines, books, or websites that you could recommend to us for for further research. We have been hunting online for alot of things but, We thought that if we reached out to you (The residents of Maine) that maybe you could make things alot easier for us to find.

When we do move it will be My wife, our little boy and I..........

Thanks, WedOnSamhain

I would also check out downeastbooks.com. I ordered a book called "Moving to Maine:The Essential Guide to Get You There" by Victoria Doudera and found tons of information in it. Like bigchuckie wrote, Downeast Magazine is a great source of info. too. I just subscribed a few months ago. It's published monthly and it cost $26 a year. Well worth it!!!

Takes you to Portland Maine's website. I think they have a little movie on it that gives a view of the city. Pretty nice. Lots of other info in there too.

We bought 6 acres in Maine and hope to build there soon.We will be part-timers but I'm always researching the area as well.Downeast is a great magazine but you can find so much more "specific" info. on your search engine .I have found web cams, local town newspapers, and historical societies that offer so much more insight.Good luck!

Thanks we are still digging away on the internet. The sites that were mentioned in the earlier posts have been helpful and we have been subscribers to the Down East magazine for about a year now. We are looking at the mid coast right now. We like Rockland......any good info on that area???

All this info is great thank you all so much. My wife and I have been reading the other threads and posts on here and I must say that there is alot of negativity(obviously their opinions on their personal experiances). Some people make it sound like it is next to impossible to make the transition of moving to Maine.

We are an average family on an average income (approximately45 to 50,000 a year). We are not wealthy by any means but we both want to make moving to Maine a reality. I drive forklift and pick orders in a warehouse and my wife is a librarian. I guess we need a good idea of where in Maine would be the best fit for us. Its seems every time we get ourselves set on an area we read something on here that puts us back to the drawing board. Any suggestions on areas that would fit our needs. If you need any other info from us let us know. Thanks again

Any state you research in this forum will have lots of negative comments as well as positive one's. We moved to NC earlier this year. A lot of posters in the NC forum make it sound like the best state in the country. It's impossible to judge though until you actually live there. Although we like living here for now, it's not the utopia a lot of people make it out to be. (We made the move because of hubby's job.) Once we make the move to Maine we'll definitely have to downsize as far as housing goes. And we're fine with that. Maine is the place for us, and with lots of visits and research, I know we're making the right decision. Good luck to you! Don't let anyone stand in the way of following your dream!
