Antique shops
Anyone have a line on a good antique shop, preferably north of Portland?
I am looking for a cuckoo clock.

antique shops
K luv, just take a ride up route one is any town. You'll find them everywhere.
There's a pretty decent one located in the Fort Andros mill on Maine St in Brunswick. Every coastal town that I know of has at least one antique shop.
I love walking through them as the items all remind me of things my grandparents had. It's so much and brings back so many wonderful memories of my childhood. Have fun!

I am not too sure about North of Portland, but if you go a little south of Portland one route 1A You will find hundreds. Lots of them every where and many clumped together in Wells. I too LOVE antique shops.

Hallowell and Wiscasset are two places that come to mind where we found many Antique shops within walking distance of each other.

Yeah, there are tons of antique shops down south on Route 1, but they are crammed with tourists and seem to be overpriced (for tourists?), that's why I am looking north. Still nice to check out, though.

how far are you interested in driving? I love the Big Chicken Barn in Ellsworth....it's on the Bucksport Road, and is barely in Ellsworth at all.

Couple of hours, maybe. I'll have to check out the Big Chicken Barn just for the name alone

Antiques
Another good store is the Old School House of Antiques in Bangor. It is four floors of good bargains. It is not as spectacular as the Chicken Barn-but there are more bargains there! Good Luck : )
