Last night I ordered our tickets to fly into Portland on 2/25 to start the house hunting phase of our plan. Overwhelmed but also very very excited! We will be up in the area thru 3/2. Will also see two of my sons and grand daughter who I havent seen for almost 2 years. "Sweetest kind of Joys!"

I wonder what the weather will be like for flying and for driving around on unfamiliar roads. We will be staying at the Holiday Inn at the Bay.

I mentioned the Inn at St John's to my son; and he rather strongly suggested that we didnt want to stay there. I told him that folks here had stayed there and had a good experience....he reiterated, that it might be ok...but he strongly recommended that we not go there; so we swapped up to the Holiday Inn. (Its so nice to have your kids, looking out for you!)

Default Elston

YEAH! Great news. As you know, the weather could be doing just about anything during that week. Just be prepared, that's all. Oh, you could probably leave your shorts and t shirts back in Cali though.

I'm sure you'll navigate the roads just fine no matter what the conditions are. Just don't drive like the idiots all around you. Take your time and let them pass you if they feel the need.

The Holiday Inn at the bay is a decent place. It'll be prefect. You can walk to many restaurants, etc from there.

We'll all be anxious to hear how you make out. We'll also be expecting reports on the adventures of your darling grand daughter!

Oh, Happy day!

That week should give you time to visit many properties in the greater Portland area. Are you all lined up with a broker?

We may need to make a quick trip to the Maine Mall or (? Remey's) I think we have one pair of gloves and one knit hat and two scarves as the extent of winter ware; except for some sweaters and sweat shirts and jeans. Our wardrobe consists 95% of t shirts and shorts and sneakers. (I have one pair of ankle top boots!) Oh Boy, I better hit the closets to see what I can find.)

The Holiday Inn by the Bay is so close to the LL Bean outlet store. Just make a dash for it upon arrival and pick up all you need! While you are in the neighborhood, check out the Portland Museum of Art and the Children's Museum of Portland with your grandwonders

I have been to the Museaum of Art (and my 7 y o granddaughter went on a field trip from school and did a painting in the style of one of the artists she saw and liked and her school had it printed up (with credit) for the invitations they sent to alumni for a function. (PROUD GRANDPA!) I believe that is also near a little resturant called The Katahdin that I liked very much.

But, where do you recommend for a good Lobster dinner with steamers if possible!

Here's our update: Although we had hopes of making our move this year, we unfortunately have to wait until next spring. Hubby's current company changed the rules, and he won't be fully vested with his 401k until March of 2009. My heart aches at the thought of waiting another year, but we have to do this the right way for our family. In the meantime, I will continue doing my research of towns we're interested in calling home. We're also planning on visiting as soon as possible. I'm not the most patient person in the world, but as they say, good things come to those who wait (just trying to stay positive!).
