Starwalker, glad to hear you're settled in and the move went ok.
Elston, we are all so happy for you! Since you won't have furniture for a few days, pretend you're having a slumber party. That's what my sweetie and I do when we move every 6 months or so. We always spend the first few days in our empty house on an air mattress in sleeping bags, with the two pups on their beds next to us. We order pizza, eat PBJ sandwiches and watch DVD's on my laptop until we can get our bedroom painted and set up. We have a couple of collapsable lawn chairs in addition. It's like a white trash furniture suite. It's really quite fun, because it's like being a kid again and you're so excited to being there that you don't care about not having the creature comforts. What's important is that you're in Maine with your DP and your two pups, near your family!
Stacy, hang in there. Best wishes on your local move, and keep the faith - you will get to Maine one day.

Wow, I am still SO far behind on reading and catching up with the latest on all the Maine action that I missed!
Quick updates for the actual thread question....Where are you in your life and your move to Maine?
My life is MESSY. Just plain messy at the moment. I am dealing with an unexpected local move and my dreams of Maine seem further and further away. I really hope to make the Ya-Ya trip this summer and it would actually be my first visit to the state!!! Can I tell you that I just can't WAIT for that to happen. I may just figure out a way to get STUCK when I get there and never come home!!
Otherwise I am finally OK healthwise and bone wise...both the hand and the arm seem to be healing well and all that time looking at them and thinking "will they EVER come back to normal" seems like a distant nightmare!
I am back 'around' on the forum and reading ALOT but I will probably remain pretty quiet! It's harder now to think Maine 24/7 like I was when I first found ya'll but yet know it may take MUCH longer to get there then I had previously thought, yet, the CD Maine forum still pulls me in with the AMAZING crop of folks and so please know that you have all found your way into a special place in my heart...the MAINE section and you'll hear from me now and then :-)

Stacie, keep the dream alive! If you choose it, it will happen for you. Maybe not in your timeframe, but in PERFECT time!! (Listening to myself say that!! )
I'm so glad you're on the mend and feeling better. Good luck with the temporary relocation!

Well, this is where I am with our move . . . I'm back in Germantown, TN after a ten-day trip to Maine (mostly in Bangor). It was a good test of winter since it snowed a lot while I was there. My sister and I have convinced my DH that we need to move back to Maine. Therefore, my DH has asked for a transfer back to corporate. Yeah! Now I just have to be patient because he'll have to wait for a job to open up. In the meantime, I will enjoy the rest of my time in the south. I don't want to be disappointed that we didn't see or do everything that we wanted to see and do before moving back.
I'm probably the only one, but I hope home prices drop in southern Maine before I get there. The condos where I bought for $59,900 twelve years ago (REO) are now going for $160,000. There is no way I will buy in that complex. Just not worth it. We'll be looking for a townhouse with a basement.

ahh ok.. where we are in life.... We are both retired Air Force enlisted that spent 3/4 of our time in the military in Europe. We are still here in Germany as Dept Of Defense contractors. The money is great and mostly tax free and we have been saving to make our move back. The military retirement is ok but not enough to "totall retire" on by any means LOL. Our quality of life is ok here in Germany but family and long time friends are "home" in Maine and we are have been so looking to moving back. We know we will make allot less money and have taxes but we should be comfortable and our quality of life will be much more.
Where we are in our move.....
We have done numerous trips back in the last year and a half plus spent numerous hours of research of the internet (this board as one great source). We close on our 3+ acres in Hampden in 6 days. We are working with an architect in Bangor to finalize our floor plan and working with a builder. We will be breaking ground on the house late this summer and moving back next June when our daughter is out of school.
The plan is in motion and we ready to move...
