At exactly noon today, we will mark 2 years in Appleton. Our hope is that we will not be marking a 3rd year. That would be too depressing to even contemplate.

I just had to go look at your previous posts. I was pretty sure I remembered that you loved Maine, and was shocked by your not wanting a 3rd year in Appleton! Then I saw it was Appleton, WI, not Maine (which I cannot imagine anyone not loving)!
Hope you get home soon.

We just hit our 2 year mark in NC on March 15th. Trying hard to stay positive!

Well I finally got clearance from work that I can spend a week or two in Maine working and trying to get a feel for the place. My job can be done from anywhere as long as there's hi-speed internet connectivity and a phone, which is pretty much anywhere nowadays.
Pretty excited to have this opportunity to spend time there and not burn vacation days doing it! The plan is a couple weeks in June, and another couple weeks in September. Should be enough time to get a better feel for 'life in Maine' and if it's somewhere I can be happy, despite hard Winters, heating oil, and black flies...

Shuffler, I'm happy for you! Hope it goes well. Do you know yet where you'll be staying?

my girlfriend's practice is in Camden, so I'll be staying there with her in the house she rents.
Knox County is beautiful, but I've noted prices and taxes along the coast are pretty insane, right up there with Boulder! We plan to explore the inland areas more and get some ideas on land/housing availability.
We both agree that having a few acres and being able to have small animals and grow some food is important, as well as space for me to target shoot, ride motorcycles, and pee in the woods without offending somebody else's sensibilities...somehow I don't think this behavior would be 'acceptable' in a place like Camden..
Biggest issue is deep roots here in Colorado...it's going to be pretty tough making that big decision to leave...or maybe not...

Regarding Shuffler's post:
I have to be able to pee in my yard......no matter where I live....city or country....always have and always did and do.

I used to pee in the woods in Camden all the time back when I worked in the brewery there. There was a nice little place in the woods right behind the brewery!
