Hmmm, I've done some furniture building/refinishing over the last couple of years, finishing it off with stain/poly. Somebody thought I was getting too picky with the sanding before/between coats.

I think I could maybe learn to do that...but I'm thinking of learning to weld, too. Ach, so many choices...

hummm... that make sense... I use marine spar varnish on hardwood floors and followed the instructions... multiple THIN coats.. after making sure the floor was totally free of dust ...and it came out beautiful! I can't wait to have a chance to do in again on a place I am going to stay.

put in a reservation on a Penske 16' truck and car trailer (not dolley) today. I found they were much cheaper, with their online discount, than any other u-load, u-drive. I have never done Penske before... usually rent the big yellow truck but they were very high. the 16' was the same price as the smaller one, and the two larger were also the same price, for what it is worth. They also offer a AAA discount, and since we were thinking of joining, we did. The discount offset the cost of the membership, and since I have a old pickup, we figure it is worth if for now. Will reconsider in a year.

Pick up truck on the 28th in the afternoon, return it on March 4.

Budget is the cheapest we have found for our move south. $1000 less than Uhaul. What ripoffs some of these companies are.
Does Penske go to Bangor? I know closest one to us is Portland, its why we will use Budget. Can pick the truck up in Auburn.
As for boat painters vs house painters. My Dad did both. He worked at a well known boatyard and would help my uncle out on an occasional weekend with building, painting, remodeling, ect. He was a perfectionist.

The first time I took a truck to Eastport, I rented from Budget and turned it in on Union St. in Bangor because it was cheaper than U-Haul. Penske was a LOT cheaper than Budget, but the only location listed in Maine at that time was at Topsham, 240 miles from Eastport.

The next time, I rented from U-Haul. Being a smaller truck, it was a little easier to afford. Convenience was an important consideration that time and I turned it in on Rt. 1 in Calais. Also, the Budget truck was in very poor condition. We even had to stop and have it repaired in Pennsylvania on the way to Eastport.

Now that Penske is in/near Bangor, I'm renting from them. Comments I have heard indicate the trucks are well maintained, and the cost is 1/2 what the others charge. I also reserved it on-line.

i wonder if car trailer in connect to trailer hitch on the truck. I am looking to rent a truck to row my 28' trailer to Ellsworth, i call Penske a mount ago they said they do not a truck with towing hitch. I hope the do now, i ll call them back later.

I dunno about towing your trailer, but we are also renting a trailer WITH the truck to tow my pickup... so my 16' one will have to have a hitch..

Every Penske truck I have seen comes with a welded on 2" hitch ball. We now run two of the "retired" Penskw trucks for work. Both are 16' box trucks. It is amazing how good of shape they are in when Penske thinks they are ready to be replaced.

There is a stipulation against towing private trailers with rental trucks usually.
