Good for you, and best of luck with your home sale! We're also working on getting our house ready to put on the market. All the major stuff is done. I'll spend the next few months organizing closets and cleaning out the attic. I can't wait for the day when the for sale sign is finally in the yard. Home sales have slowed down a lot here too. (Home sales are down about 30% since same time last year... ) Hopefully it won't take forever to sell. Keeping my fingers and toes crossed!

It occurs to me how scary it's going to be to arrive at that point in just over 90 days - JUST OVER 90 DAYS!!!! - when it's time to make final preparations, pin down the moving date, start working toward Brad turning in notice at both of his his jobs, etc.

And some time between now and then, we still have to tell his mother! She's known for a long time that it's coming. We just haven't told her yet that the time is only 4 months away, and that we're not waiting to sell the house. She's going to freak!

My sister wants to throw us a bon voyage party. I think it would be too sad that way. We've all agreed that the morning we pull out with the truck loaded, no-one will be there to send us off. We know there will be crying and some sadness to leave behind family, friends and the place where our family began - where our lives together began, here in this house - but we're more than ready to close this chapter and begin a new one!

We're more fortunate than most people who make such a cross country move. We already have wonderful friends waiting to greet us! With the offers we've had from some of you folks to come help unload, I'm guessing there will be people standing in the driveway, and we'll have no earthly clue who you are - until we begin to talk! Meeting you all in person will be so special for me. This online romance has gone on long enough!! Fair warning - I'm a hugger! Hope no-one is afraid of physical contact. If so, too bad! And I'm envisioning many cold winter days with us sitting across the table from you, chatting and laughing over the best coffee and pie that we've ever tasted. Oh, and someone has to teach us how to set up a lobster/clam bake on the beach during the summer months! Can't wait!

We already have a house waiting for us that we've fallen in love with through photos. I'm starting to imagine our furniture and things in there, and I'm working out in my mind where things will be placed. I'm seeing my bookshelves full of books again, pretty areas rugs on wood floors - I've never had wood floors!

So, I understand and accept that a period of anxiety and 'what the hell are we doing - are we really ready for this' moments are sure to come at the last minute, but it will all be replaced by bliss and euphoria when we cross that big bridge and are welcomed home!

Very well said El. Tried to rep you but gotta spread it around some more.

The day you actually leave Houston and Texas will be a roller coaster. It certainly was for us the day we left Maine. I cried from Kittery, across the bridge and well into Portsmouth. But then the excitement of our new adventure settled back in and we were happy again. (Little did we know) Now the day is coming again when we will make that return trip, probably crying all the way, but this time with tears of joy as we will be returning home.

El, stop making me teary eyed. I'm so very happy for you (perhaps a bit jealous ) , but I can't wait to get the grand tour of your new home when we make it up next (maybe September?).

Default Also heading to Maine (new to posting on Maine forum)

Hello all! My husband is in Maine right now (west of Augusta) and having a wonderful time. We have thoroughly enjoyed reading threads here on the Maine forum on city-data from both the long-timers and the newcomers. We will be living in that area after he retires from the military in a few years.

Thought I'd share a little bit of our story since it is a little different and it might be encouraging to someone. We have gone up to Maine for a few years now, done a heap of reading and listening to people's experiences, and decided that Maine was indeed the right place for us. When we went up there 2 months ago, we rented a home in the Belgrade Lakes area. In addition to having a lovely time there, we ended up buying a home on 5+ acres on a pond! Had no idea we'd come across the ideal retirement home on our trip, but it was truly meant to be. We already rented it out to a young couple who needed a place over the winter.

Looking forward to our move! Our daughter and I may move up a little ahead of my husband (2 years and 8 months to go).

You are so lucky that you don't hafta wait to sell your house in Texas to move to Eastport! I wish Dano and I could just rent ours out like you but we need to sell it in order to buy the house we want in Eastport....

Are you guys renting a house in Eastport or buying?

Best of luck to you on your move in February!

Welcome to the Maine forum!
I'm sure you have already figured this out, but there is a wealth of information hidden within these threads...probably 2 years and 8 months worth of reading!
A very friendly bunch reside here, and they are more than helpful...jump on in and enjoy yourself!

We'll be living in the second home of a friend at first, for a while. No idea how long "a while" will be until we get there and things start falling into place. Once we're there, we'll be able to check everything out better and decide where we'll want to settle in a purchased home for the future. Kinda hard all the way across the country!
