Good thing we have beds and a bit of borrowed furniture waiting for us!

How exciting! Reserving the moving truck is a big step. It finally puts an end in sight. Congratulations, El!!

I'm so glad I'm not the only one excited about our move! Not many people here are excited for us. They think we're insane. My uncle even used the words "selfish" and "abandoning our family". Since when is moving across the country and choosing to stray from what OTHERS deem normal WRONG???? Then again, I was the first and most famous rebel in our family while growing up! So, why are they surprised that I'd "leave the commune" and go my own way? Oh well!
Now that I know the truck is arriving on 2/26, I'm running around looking at all the crap we've amassed over the last 13 years and saying, "OMG! OMG! How am I going to get all this done?"

I think it's WONDERFUL your plans are coming together for your family, Elcarim! I'm sorry about the less-than-supportive comments from people. Sometimes people say strange things when they aren't comfortable. You know things are going to be great for your family in Maine!
Looking forward to reading more updates!

Hi everyone, I haven't been as active here as I used to be, and I have been trying to keep up to date with what's going on, but I'm afraid I've fallen behind a bit.
It's been about 4 1/2 months since I arrived in Maine. I had been planning on coming here for a while, because my parents are suffering health problems in their golden years and can't do for themselves anymore. But what finally forced me to get up and move was the untimely death of my bf/partner and the subsequent losses associated with it (home, etc.). I decided to put everything in storage and pack my cats and my clothes in my Jeep and just hit the road. When I first got here I was scared, because everything familiar to me was gone, including a secure job back in VT. I stuck it out and worked odd jobs during the summer and tried to familiarize myself with my new surroundings in between times I wasn't busy with my parents.
And now things have fallen into place. I work two part-times jobs, one at at an oncolocy clinic in the hospital, and the other in the health clinic at the college. I have been also been volunteering in the community and I joined the hospital auxiliary. I love having two part-time jobs because it will allow me the flexibility to take advantage of free classes and resources at the college. And the pay and bennies are good. YAY!! I love the town and the people where I live now, and I feel like part of the community.
Thanks to everyone who helped me and offered me advice. Of course, everything is not all rosy 24/7, and I just try to keep on going. But 4 1/2 months ago I could never have imagined how lucky I would be today!

Hi Asta! I'm so sorry for your loss and happy to hear of your gains! I know you'll appreciate the time you'll have with your parents and being "home" again. Glad to hear the job situation is working out so nicely for you, too!
I'm glad you popped in to update us!

Perhaps the family is less than supportive because they wish they were as advenutrous as our fair miss el.

Yes, Elcarim, I really agree with Drama. You may be causing some of your loved ones to question their complaisant lives ( which most of us are guilty of at one time or another) You are following your dream, and that can make some people uncomfortable with themselves. They think " your outside of your box get back in!" But you know if they didn't love you, they wouldn't care
