For anyone that is interested in the construction field check out Cianbro.
Also, Ellsworth area is having a construction boom right now. Just started construction on a 500,000-square-foot, 26-store open-air mall known as Acadia Crossing shopping center. In the pipeline is a proposal to build a 48,000 sq. ft. Hampton Inn near corner of Route 3 and Route 1. The population in this area triples during tourist season as it is the Gateway to Acadia National Park. Several new places have been build over the past 6 months and they've even had to make a major change to the traffic pattern. This is a good sign for our local economy, but I have mixed feelings about all this development. At least we're still 12 miles away from it and it will be alot closer than Bangor for our "shopping" fix.

I find myself in a "clean slate" mood the more I get into sorting and packing. I have so much crap that I've held onto for years, and I'm suddenly ready to let go and make a fresh start. I think that's a good thing, since we're paying by the square foot to move our belongings.

So now that we're in a recession, it'll be interesting to see how this and other late-blooming retail developments weather the storm...sure seems like extremely bad timing to me...
Meanwhile, my gal is back in Camden, making preparations to get out here to Colorado permanently. We're shooting for April, since her lease is up in March. I'll be out there a few times over the coming months to help pack up, get her business affairs squared away, etc. Counting the days....

It's amazing what you can part with when it comes down to it. After having lived in Wi for 20 years, you wouldn't believe how much junk we accumulated. We got rid of most of it when we moved, and don't miss any of it one bit. We're starting to get into a pattern of hanging onto stuff again, so I'm spending the next few months slowly getting rid of stuff again. The less we need to move, the better. I'm even trying to talk my hubby into selling most of our furniture and buying when we get up to ME. (No sentimental attachments to any of it!)

We've cleared out so many times, and just did it again in early October. We are doing a very small Christmas so as not to accumulate stuff. Keeping our eye on the prize in 2009.
It's even more important now that we get back because my very elderly mother is up there by herself now that my brother has passed.

One of my easiest moves- I packed whatever would fit in a single Army duffle bag, everything else was left behind. That's one way to cut down on the "stuff". Anybody remember George Carlin's routine on "stuff"?

I think it is a good thing for both practical and spiritual reasons.....but my experience is that I keep looking for those items I divested when we moved to maine......I dont think I brought the christmas tree lights and not sure about the stand. There are books that I think I may have donated......and I really could use some of the cold weather stuff that didnt go to california with me....the move before the last.....
I do see some of my old stuff when I visit my kids....it found a home...just not my home.

I think getting rid of all our accumulated stuff.. is a good thing, but like elston, I will probably get rid of something I need and thought I could live without. After seeing packrat to the extreme(I have an in law that is German and lived through WWII who buys 3 of everything and leaves it sit in bags all over the house).. I'll choose live without it every time.
This person became a hoarder and is getting foreclosed on from the who needs to pay the mortgage when there is cool stuff on ebay and hsn mentality and we may have to help clear out this mess.

We're doing the same slim-lined Christmas. I don't want to waste a lot of money, and I don't want to add a lot of stuff to pack and move. Our kids are each getting 3 gifts - 1 large, 2 small, and that's absolutely IT! They'll get other things from family, too, so if we keep our buying in check, we should come out alright. You know, they always pick 2 or 3 things out of the whole pile of toys, and that's all they play with for a year! So, we've thought a lot about what they truly enjoy, and we're sticking to those things. We'll also be going through and cleaning out toy bins and donating toys to Operation Refuge.
This year's theme is "Less is MORE"!
