Well, we're going to my sister's today for our Bon Voyage party with the family. It's going to be nice. Oh! She found a recipe for Allen's Coffee Brandy and added that to our dessert menu along with some good home-made mulled cider and a fabulous blueberry cream cheese dessert, starring the Maine blueberries that Maine Writer sent us. Woohoo!! (Thanks, Sis!)
Brad has to work a 36 hour stretch starting tomorrow morning, then home Monday night for his last shift on this job. It feels a bit odd that he's giving up two jobs at a time when so many are fighting to keep theirs. But, there is also another new listing there this week for EMTs, full time and part time with a separate service. Now, he'll have at least three options available to him between EMS and the Fire Department, so that's a comfort. I'm thanking my lucky stars that he's in the medical/emergency field right now!
Tuesday, the moving trailer arrives, and we start removing our presence from this house! We don't live here anymore!! We'll be hitting the road very early Thursday morning, laptop in hand, so we'll be able to check in with everyone from our hotels each night.
Have I said recently how excited we are?

Down, but not Out
Well, DH struck out in Houlton. All the places we found in the Yellow Pages Book the Chambers of Commerce sent us were - empty! He told me it's a very depressed town.
He went on up to Presque Isle last night and will begin again today. He said it looked more hopeful up there, so God willing, maybe something will come of it. He only has a few days left he can be up there this time around. We have to make a decision as to where we live in the next month due to our lease here coming due again - it's currently over 1k, and the landlord has been raising it every year for the past two years.
DH is a maint. tech on the big "tools" at his current job, so was hoping that one of the potato processing plants might be able to use him, but he said it looked like McCains up there was closed, drat. He's looking at everything that might possibly be something he could do, so covering the bases I guess.
Maybe this time around, we were just supposed to get a feel for the area. Even though he was from upstate NY, he was surprised how little traffic was on Rt. 1 between Houlton and Presque Isle. I wish he had the money and time to keep right on going up to Fort Kent, but it may not happen this time. sniff.

Well, we'll sure keep our fingers crossed for you guys! It may take time, but it will happen if you stay determined.
I agree about the lack of traffic. We never saw anything in Maine during March that we would even call "traffic." Most of our trip up Rt 1 from Portland into the Downeast area, we didn't even see other cars. Occasionally, we'd pass ONE. Unreal, and very pleasant! It felt like a ghost state most places. Of course, that was in March when many business were closed up for winter. I can't wait to see it in the summer and fall.
Good luck with the search!

And if you are passing anywhere through the DC/northern Virginia metro, check your route and times carefully to avoid commuter jams. Don't want anything to delay your arrival in Maine!
I am so happy for you, Elcarim! Enjoy your journey home!
p.s. Do you plan on driving near DC, Elcarim? Let me know if you might need help with which routes to avoid!

You do know that every year your taxes and insurance goes up, right? If I were a landlord and my expenses went up for a rental I had I would raise the rate too. I just got notice that since our taxes and insurance went up so does our house payment, just the way of life since the bank refuses to pay them for us .

Yes, I understand that; what burns me is that he promises every year that we will stick with the price increase for the year and he writes out the lease for that amount. Then, later on each year he's raised the rate on us. I'm not saying he doesn't have the right to do it, it just is getting too darn expensive to live here and I'm a little sad and a little mad about this whole financial fiasco. I have owned several houses in the past and know what is involved with all the extra expenses. It's just hard to figure out right now which is the better way to go - rent or own.
