Corgis, I need to talk to you about that trek around New York. I think I'm missing a road on my map.

Oh good grief.. missing a road. This cannot be good!

And owning is always preferrable. It not only invests your money instead of giving it away, you have peace of mind knowing you live in YOUR house, with no one coming around to check on THEIR property. You might want to be aware that most states have laws regarding rentor's rights. IE, landlords can't come into the house when you're not home, things like that.
El, the knots in my stomach are getting tighter by the day. I can only imagine what you must be going through. Be careful. Don't know what route you're planning, but there are crazy drivers everywhere (just ask Brad) so be careful. Remember that it's still ice and snow the further north you get. And absolutely check in with us each night, if you're not too exhausted.
Hubby's crew is giving him a party on the 6th and I'm postponing the final lunches with friends. Actually, to be honest, I'm hiding out at home so that I don't have to say goodbye. Don't know how much longer I'm going to be able to get away with that. At the same time, I'm looking forward to the new move, the trip up, (we're taking the Blue Ridge Parkway) and seeing what's under all that snow!
|
Some parts of the Blue Ridge Parkway are closed until April because the road is not plowed or salted in the winter. If you want to DM me your route, I'll be happy to suggest an easier and just as senic a route. I'm in West Virginia and I'm thinking you might go through a little of WV on your way unless you're coming up from Tennessee into Virginia.

What a super family you have! Thanks for sharing the pics of the food, fun and family.
It snowed a bit here last night, but mostly lots of wind. However, now it's ramping up and may have more to say, snow-wise. I just got my papers from the County yesterday, just in time to see that DH missed a job fair at the Presque Isle Center on the 19th. But, there is an ad in that same paper for similar qualifications as he has now. He is going to apply there tomorrow.
My family met last evening at my Dad's to celebrate my oldest sister's birthday. A couple of them kept asking me why we wanted to be "Maine-iacs"? First time I'd ever heard that one. When pressed, I said because we like the cold (both of us melt, I swear, in too much heat), and because we like it "less populated". Oh yes, my birthday sister said- and you're a homebody. They said this all very lovingly; they know me! I hope to make a place where any of our relatives would look forward to coming to visit.
DH doesn't know it yet, but I plan on dragging him out the first winter we're there to try out the sledding. I plan on helping out a local shelter for animals, and I still want to learn Acadian French. I love to try to figure out what the editor of one of the papers is saying when he swings into French in his editorial. And I saw that there is a local woodcarving teacher -yay! I can carve in a limited fashion, and would love to take it up with a good teacher again sometime.
Oh, and we do have a lease. Our landlord is a good person, but just is so hyper and busy all the time that he forgets things easily. We live on the grounds of a big seasonal campground, that also has year-round rentals. He likes to create work for himself, because I do believe he'd blow up if he had to sit down for more than two minutes. We want to stay on his good side, of course. We would need his good references if we have to rent up in Maine at first. We love our huge apartment, but are ready to move on to smaller quarters so I will be able to continue on with my art. I am in an Open Studio show this May in the Burlington area, and I've been busy getting pieces ready. When in Maine, I will plan on selling my pieces on the Internet, so I will be "portable" job-wise.

when you get here, give me a holler and maybe I can help with that "portable job" as I do likewise...
I just got notified that I am one of the first group that has been selected to display in a rotating show at the community college in Bangor, being put on by the Maine Crafts Association.
