hi...I posted recently in a thread asking about the necessary distance between well & septic. There's room for both (100' betwixt), and I'm about to become the new owner of the property! Closing may be as soon as the 22nd...that's next Friday!!! It's a FSBO, and I've got a lawyer doing contract, title, etc. Everything is in order; basically, it's just up to me to produce $$$.
The 18x20 half cape that's on the property is really hurting (it's wavy), though there are odd bits to salvage toward new construction of a 16x20 half cape on a frost wall instead of a pile of loose rock. Sills are very good; it's fallen off its foundation here & there and settled on ledge. I'm a frugal Susy, and I've lived in some beauts in my life, but the old house may have to go. In weighing cost to make current habitable vs. cost to create clean palatte & efficient new little place the scale tips toward new.
Fun summer and fall ahead! This is where I'm at in my move in Maine!

Wow, that sounds like it needs a little TLC.

Well, slow and stead, step by step, anything can be fixed.
I have jacked up houses before. Maybe if it were up a couple foot, it would be easier to pour a new foundation under it?

beekeeper...thanks for the "woo Hoo!" It is exciting! Would this house survive being jacked up...slowly, carefully, even? Straighten out this bit, and how would that translate through the rest of the creaky old structure? Might happen this way, though...My gut keeps telling me to start from scratch. Building mats. used in current structure are really...'unspecial'. Wish I had - a camera - so I could post a couple of photos of my Maine prize! Will keep posting in words as things unfold, are torn down, jacked up, etc!

Glad to hear some of you are having good luck with your adventures in real estate. Maybe you can help with ours. We like the house we live in, which is for sale, but we think it wise to look at other houses. If you know anyone with a house for sale in the Calais area, could you DM me please? Got a realtor, thanks. I think getting settled into our OWN house will be that last little detail that seems to be missing from feeling completely at home here.

Leaving Florida for Eastport in two weeks...stopping in Tennessee to visit sister and brother...pick up some furniture and hope to be in Eastport by June 5th or 6th to spend the summer unless I can convince husband to retire ...not having much luck convincing him ...I will continue to nag...nag...nag or hopefully If I get lucky and find a job he will relinquish. He keeps saying that he doesn't think he can make it another year living and working in Florida.!!

Keep nagging and maybe you will get to stay.. then I can see you when we're up in September. Totally selfish of me I know, but a girl's gotta do what a girl's gotta do!
