Wow, this is frightening- hearing about the ticks and lyme disease. Is it a problem if you live in town? Hoping to move up there this summer or next and we have dogs. Lyme is pretty rare here in NC (of course, we may have to worry about Zika soon!!). Thanks for any response!

I have never seen a tick north of Route 6. We have lived in this house for 33 years. We ran sled dogs for a decade or so after we moved up here from Verona, Maine. Back in 74 we never saw a tick in the Verona/Bucksport area. Back then the worry was Parvovirus.

Most definitely. And something we found out this past year: Your dog can have the disease for months and show no symptoms.

I'm on the NH border and ticks are all over the place--yes, in your back yard and everywhere you go--shrubbery, grass, everywhere.

Two years ago our dog came in from a walk covered with ticks. We pulled a lot off and then decided to take him to the vet anyway. The vet pulled off 20 more! Good thing we took the dog in because when the vet tested him, he tested positive for Lyme Disease. I don't remember if the vet gave him anything but I am sure the dog got vaccinated for Lyme Disease shortly thereafter. The vaccine isn't 100% effective though.

We've watched the dog closely these past two years and he's fine. It'll soon be time to get out the stuff we use on him to repel ticks though. We have switched to a very high quality dog food too, just to be sure that he stays healthy. (not some dog food that's sold by the vets either, btw.)

I've had it. Even using Frontline, I picked off more than 10 ticks from my dog today - - and several migrated to me. So that's it. I'm calling the vet on Monday and asking for Bravecto.

Frontline didn't work very well on my dog. We found K9 Advantix worked much better for him. This past fall we switched over to Bravecto and so far it seems to be working well.

Nothing gonna stop ticks from hitching a ride into the house on the pets. The drugs are meant to stop the ticks from biting/attaching, they would have to be too powerful and bad for the dog if they stopped ticks from even walking on the pets fur for a little bit.
