OK, I'll take credit for introducing the terms yip and yip yawed in this forum, but the terms were introduced to me by Chester Thwing around 1944. Chet had a Stanley Steamer (made in Maine) and I used to ride in it. The term originated among the shipbuilders who built the clipper ships on the Maine coast.
Chester Thwing; Now, there's a Maine name.
Tunk: To tap heavily into place. Tunk that sill over a little before we set the joist on it.

yep, some of that Mainah talk made it to the south, as I have heard of tunk, and quite a few of the old sayings from Maine are the ones the Scotch-Irish used in the south. Have you heard of the word tote? To tote means to carry.

Being stuck with a logical mind, it has always seemed to me that if you unthaw something, it will be frozen again.
Same problem with flammable and inflammable.

As George Carlin said, "We have flammable, inflammable and noninflammable. Why do we have three words? It seems to me that it can flam, or not flam. How can it be more complicated thatn that?"

lol....I love words like that!
Traditionally Mainers don't take "kindly" to those who brag or put themselves on display.....I remember one of my mother's favorite sayings....."there's no conceit in her family, she's got it all!" It's one of my favorites to this day!
