The rain has been a problem this year in creating the frost heaves. Water seeps in to the cracks and as it freezes it exerts 30,000 pounds per square inch of pressure heaving up the area where the water soaked in. Places where there are fewer cracks, ledge, large rocks, culverts etc won't hold the water hence they don't heave up. That's why you'll have heavily heaved areas in close proximity to flat areas. In April and May the sun warms up the pavement and the frost heaves settle back down. Sometimes these areas settle more than the original compaction and you get pot holes. You need a car with decent suspension in Maine

I am afraid I may be able to do that even sooner now. I can just see it now...as soon as he is back around the frost heaves, I have had it.

It's all fun and games until your vehicle gets torn up.
Those pesky pot holes and frost heaves can really do a number on your alignment, shocks, tires. I manage to inflict enough wear and tear just being out on job sites but add to NNE roads in the spring and I'm headed for the poor house.
This year seems to be particularly bad and the worst is still coming. Easy does it.

So true...sadly my vehicle is already torn up. So I figure I might as well have a little fun.
