Hi, I have been looking around Maine for a nice place to live for three years, the best place to suite my situation. Can anyone tell me about Searsport? I love the lakes and or the ocean. I'm alone and need to be able to maintain my property without breaking my back (had two surgeries).I need to be near a medical facility for work and I know you have to drive to get to most places and there are three hospitals relitively close. I'm from New York but don't care for the city except to go to the theatre or concert.

I put money down on a place in Kennebec county but the realtor was unscrupulous and sold it out from under me. There is always one.......... but it did seem like a perfect spot. Anyway there are more towns like that one I am sure.

Welcome any adivice.........Peace, Xan

Lots of traffic in the summer due to touristy things like flea markets and antique shops.

Pretty, quaint and not much there. The most important thing we discovered about it was that RT 1 IS the main street. It's probably near impassable during the summer.

There is a nice park, I think. I seem to have read something about that.

Searsport is a charming and quiant little coastal town and home to Moose Point State Park which is one of our favorite quiet places to escape to when we don't (didn't) want a long drive. The town is right next to Belfast so you would have access to that hospital, and it's a 30-40 minute drive to Bangor which has a couple of hospitals and a lot of medical practices.

Rt 1 does get busy in the Summer but I've never seen it completely jammed as it tends to be in the southern coastal beach towns.

It's a great place for a deep water port to promote tourism and bring some jobs to the area......no wait the legislature nixed that idea!!
