I drive though Prentiss Township and Lincoln about twice a week. It's very rural. If you look on the map, you'll see Prentiss Township is mostly forest. Not much tourism up here, except perhaps for some fishing and hunting.
Lincoln is a small wood mill town with about 3,000 people. It's about a 25 minute drive from Prentiss to Lincoln. Prentiss is pure and pristine. Lincoln is smelly from the wood mill (at least parts of it).
There's a tiny ski hill in Lee, between Prentiss and Lincoln, but the hill is the size of a mosquito bite. The main industry up here is forestry, with perhaps some fishing and hunting. Occasionally, people will open craft shops in place like Lee or Lincoln or other small towns in Maine.
The reason the land is so cheap up here is everybody left Maine after 1950. Old farms turned back in to forests. People moved out. Now, with conveniences like the Internet, satellite TV and satellite radio/cell phones, this area is becoming more accessible. Many people from other parts of the US sell their homes for a lot of money and then move up here to retire, or live on their disability check, and some of them come up here, willing to try to make a living (which is very hard, because all of northern Maine is an economically poor place).
In Prentiss, you will see plenty of moose, some deer, a lot of wildlife, BUT NOT MANY TOURISTS.
Have a great day. TipTopRoger
