In response to the high fuel prices we have cut back on driving for fun and canceled a vacation. Just can't afford the luxuries. However this coming winter we will be glad that we never converted the condo to petroleum fuel. We have and will heat with electricity generated at the nuclear power station at Seabrook.
If people want to blame any politicians on this problem I offer the policies implemented by REPUBLICAN administrations, including the economic DINO Bill Clinton that rejected spending on petroleum displacing alternates, since Ronald Raygun went back to business as usual. Business as usual means huge profits for the monopoly oil interests and a complete indifference to what happens to the rest of us.
You may call Senator Obama “obummer” but he does represent the only hope we have to restore a democracy for the remains of our republic after the REPUBLICANS nearly destroyed it with their Patriot Act and other constitutional abominations. Get real folks. If you elect McCain we will only be washed further down the crap filled river we are in.
We need to start building more wind, biomass, hydro and nuclear power right now. Even if some of the sillier greens are upset by the thought of disturbing their concept of a pristine environment.

McCain and Obama are both globalist trash and traitors to the Republic. I will never vote for either of them.

Well I agree with you whole heartedly on that point!
Unfortunately were going to have to live with one of them for at least the next four years!

That fact alone should tell people how deeply in trouble we are. The same people control both parties, and the entire nominating process.

Several very large refineries are about to start going online in Russia and Chine. Oil is a global issue not an American one.
A combination of new safe nuclear, wind, solar, hydro, biofuel and fossil fuels will increase supply and the price of crude will come down. China is about to reduce greatly subsidizing the the cheap price their people pay. When that happens demand will drop.
Putting most of our eggs in one oil basket has put us where we are today....a house of pain. Making the basket bigger by drilling everywhere will not help and will result in us getting back in this situation down the road. We have to get off the oil teat.
About 5 years ago Cianbro, Maine's largest construction company, built two huge oil rig platforms in Portland Harbor. They were a sight to see when they were lit up at night as the work went on 24/7. They took two years to build them. Nope, more rigs won't help in the short term.

if you need to tell yourself we are not in a recession then ok.as for me i know we are in one and if you want to beleave what the bush admin is telling you then thats fine.the gov can tell every body that we are not in a recession and make 65%of the people beleave it.i am a realist i no first hand what the oil price is doing to this country.but i count my self lucky becouse my truck was paid for and i had something to fall back on.but i still lost when i sold my truck.i feel bad for those who cant sell their truck so they have to run it.i know a guy that use to bring home 12 or 1300 a week.last week after he paid for fuel he brought home 400 bucks.not even a dent in his $2300 a month truck payment.not counting his house payment or his oil bill for the winter.the real fact is and i hate to tell every body this our oil prices are hear to stay.so keep your shot guns handy becouse the crime rate is going to rise.

1) Freedom is in the mind, American people are no longer Free but are slaves to the dollar and their job where they sweat for hours on end to pay for the thousands of little "necessities" that make up their lives. Never once exploring whether this or that piece of technology actually ends up BETTERING their lives or costing more than it has provided. Cell Phones, cable, internet, fancy cars that could get > 50 mpg's if you took out all the extras. Public schools, private schools, higher taxes to pay for better hospital care, etc. We pay the government huge globs of money to have some unknown number of middle-men pillage and plunder our pockets and then provide some measly portion back to us in services. Maine is exceptional in how the government manages to steal from those who work and provide lavish goods and services to hordes of people who can and are quite able to work.
Want to know the TRUE oil problem? ITS US. We build inefficient homes that use 8+ cords of wood or thousands of dollars of oil. We've got a government run campus driving "pollution free automobiles" which get their energy from fossil fuel burning plants.
WE elected those people in legislature.
WE keep them in office.
OUR voice has been silent.
Everyone wants to cut the budget, Everyone wants less money taken out of their pocket by the government. Which service do you cut? Which family goes hungry, which family runs out of oil in January?
Seriously, look at how quickly the Emergency Oil fund was exhausted in Maine last year... What do you think is going to happen when the cost is DOUBLE what it was last year?
I got invited to a conference call last evening with Tom Allen & a bunch of Maine citizens. It was pitiful & disgusting. Person after Person asking how MAINE is going to provide them with Oil. How are you going to PAY us so we can buy oil. This is horrible how the American Spirit & PRIDE have sunk so low that we look to politicians to feed our families and heat our homes.
The problem isn't with companies or politicians, it is with US.
I paid off my last debt 2 years ago. I have 4 kids, make ~20K a year, my wife stays home to homeschool the kids. I'm pursuing medical school & I'm almost there. I can't express to you the FREEDOM that having no debts and a safety buffer can do to a man. Spend less, save more. Get away from that boundary between broke & rich. Markets go up & then come down. Oil prices go up & come down.
Americans do better than survive.
We do better than Beggar ourselves before Politicians.
It is our voice, our money, our market, our homes, our independence, OUR FREEDOM.
Perhaps America will be shocked into realizing this at some point.

Good stuff. I think it's going to take >$5/gallon and big-time energy shocks to wake up the Sheeple. Until then, the status quo persists, at least from my general observations...traffic is the same, people are still shopping, buying new cars, and apparently in denial about how dire the situation really is. The only thing I notice is a few more scooters around town, maybe a few more people riding bikes, but that's about it.
I have to laugh at all the hybrids I'm seeing now. The environmental cost to build a hybrid, let alone replace the batteries when they die, and the fact that people are still driving...the idea is to drive less. That alone can make a huge dent in our demand for liquid fuels. Nobody said it'd be easy. That's the problem with most Americans...we've been so spoiled and we want everything to be cheap and easy.
Our country is going to get another swift kick in the rear...it's just a matter of 'when' and 'in what form' that is going to happen...but it will happen.
Are we ready? Some of us are, but my view is that the general population is completely clueless and most people are wishful thinkers without a plan.

if the politicians raise'd the min wage and cut big gov then people wouldnt have to worry about heating their homes or feeding their famely's how do they expect some one to feed their kids and pay the rent gas to go to work, power bill's on 7 or 8 an hr.i see people do it but they are working over time and some times both are working to make ends meat.

what your saying is . its my fault that larg companies pay lobyest money to convince politicians that the min wage needs to stay low or they will go out of buisness.i have an idea i will take the blame for killing off the dinosaors for eating to mutch grass.if those big ceo's didnt get paid millions and lower the price of their product then people wouldnt need more money to make ends meat.
