Introducing Myself to Maine Residents
Hello everyone! Just wanted to let you know that my wife and I are looking to move to Maine. We are both native New Englanders; I was born in Rhode Island, where we currently live, and she was born in SE Massachusetts. We are both 60-ish, not yet retired, but fit and ready to take on some of that snow you're complaining about! Save some for us, yah? The summer heat here in RI can get in the 90s and over 100 F, and is a bit too much for us. The humidity from the ocean about knocks us dead! Taxes and property prices are crazy. I grew up vacationing in Maine as a kid, but have not been back there in some time. Not looking to settle in "greater Boston" (e.g. the part of Maine near the NH border) - we'd like something further north, more remote, possibly less expensive (?). Not sure there is any such thing left in this world. Anyway, I'm sure I will enjoy reading more of what you are posting! Hope my "from away" mentality doesn't spook you!

Welcome to our humble forum. Ask away. You are already thinking in the right direction in bypassing "greater Boston". There are some bargains up here.

We fled greater Boston. I used to tell people we were a $10 cab ride from Logan airport.
Everyone we have met has been unbelievably welcoming and we are astounded at our good fortune to have landed in such a wonderful place.

Howdy!
....say what you will, all you folks having fun about "north Boston", but southern Maine is still way better than many other places Heading home on the days I'm obliged to work out of state, as soon as I pass the NH tolls I'm already breathing easier - especially in the summer - and by the time I'm crossing that dear old Piscataquis River bridge, I'm almost yodeling out the windows

Welcome to our forum. It is a wonderful bunch on here and you will get a wealth of information. I guess I won't be alot of help as I am in Southern Maine ( and loving it). Maine is a great place to be. Good luck on wherever you decide.

Thanks everyone for the warm welcome! No offense intended to southern Maine...that is where I stayed as a kid on vacations, in the Wells and Biddeford areas. I'm sure it is much different now (was almost wilderness back then - real "camp") but then, RI is way different now, too. I used to hate to come back home for school, but my dad always said, 'you wouldn't want to be up there in the winter, son'. Never said why. Maybe now I'll find out!

It is diffinatly NOT wilderness now. No offense taken. Just don't go the far Northern Maine if you are trying to stay away from what Wells was years ago.....I have been around for over 50 years and Wells was more developed back then than Northern Maine is now. Best of luck to you.

Welcome to the forum - several of us are particularly fond of Eastport and the Downeast area from Machias to Calais.
