Default Running from the heat.

Hi all!

Just joined the forums but hope to be an steady posted. Anyways, My fiance' and I are planning to move up to Maine in about 2 years or so. Shes born and raised in Texas, and Im currently stuck there. However I was born and raised in Chicago. I love the cold, love the snow, and cant stand anything above 70 degrees. I have always wanted to move to Maine. But I know very little about it or the cities within. So in looking for places to live, were kind of blind. Ive lived in downtown areas and suburb areas, and I have to say I much prefer an area right outside of a downtown area. Nice, homely, friendly, that type of place. Also I really want to be near or at least be able to drive to within reason the mountains or a great snowboard resort/park, and she would like to have access to the coast. Can you guys give me some tips on where to look/visit? Thanks for the help.

There is a perfect place for everyone in Maine, and the mountains really do meet the sea! You should be able to find something suitable for both of you.

Where in Texas are you? We're just north of downtown Houston.

Probably around the Portland area would be best for you. A lot of Mainers will tell you that temps in the summer time get really high, and that humidity will kill you. Don't listen to them unless they claim to have lived in either the MidWest or the South. I only say that because to someone who never left this state, the temps can feel rather hot, but for you-coming from Texas (and Chicago)-there are going to be summer days when you will feel like wearing at least a sweater.

LOL, I've lived in central TX (Bell and Coryell Counties) and the heat/humidity in ME is *nothing* compared to there.

congrats on getting out of dallas........back in the day i did a couple year stint building some big fine homes in a fancy development called "los colinas" in irving.

it was so hot our wives would bring us icy watermelon for a quick afternoon break and we'd spit the seeds everywhere and they'd get swept up with the sawdust at the end of every day into a pile outside the garage. towards the end of that job, watermelon vines began to grow out of that pile. it was just hot, hot, hot.

this was about 32 years ago, when watermelons still had seeds.............lol

best of luck on your move. not sure where to advise you to look but many here will have good ideas.
