Maine ranked 2nd safest state
I just saw an article online by CQ Press, which ranked Maine as the second safest state to live. (NH was ranked safest.) Just wanted to share!

Links like that are fine to post. That's a news thing. Is it a current list?

I know what you mean. The safety in Maine just reinforces my belief that it's the right place for us. Hopefully we'll all be "home" soon!

Well you can't call states that don't have or barely have over a million people safe. Lets face it most American's don't live in the middle of nowhere and if they did it would be expected to be one of the safest but look at Alaska.

Kinda throws the "safety in numbers" theory out the window now doesn't? How can you NOT call low population areas safe? Your statement lacks common sense. Less people= less criminals=less crime,it's simple logic isn't it? I had a friend who lived in Anchorage for 8 years. He told me the reason crime was higher there than in many rural places was the type of people the place draws. More than a few of the people up there were running away from something and embraced the outlaw mentality and all that goes with it. They like the gun toting, wild west attitude up there. After they decide they've had enough of the wilderness they're usually too broke to go back to the lower 48 so they congregate in places like Anchorage. Those types of folks in quantity with 6 months of darkness and tons of bars around.....well do the math. As for this state if this is the middle of nowhere I'll take it! No gangs, no bars on the windows,no sirens,no shootings, kids can ride bicycles to school, people can go out after dark without fear, you can go on vacation for a week and your posessions will still be in your house when you return, yeah! life in nowhere is hell!

Well, now - hold on just a minute - Maine and WV have almost exactly the same population statewide and really close population between Charleston/Portland and Huntington/Bangor and WV is rated 14th, which makes it comparable in population but much more crime ridden.

Here in Rho-Dieland...
Between the mafiosa and the inner-city shootings, you need to be careful where you live! And this is just a tiny state! We are "out in the sticks" as in, "Wood River Junction? Where the heck is that?". Curious thing: it costs more to live in the crime-infested areas than it does out by the woods. Why would anybody pay to live with the crazies? Just my report from little ol' RI!
