Default Can I find organic and natural grocery in Maine?

I recently read that Portland is acknowledged as a "green city." I think that is fantastic, but was wondering if areas like Portland, Bangor, Augusta, Lewiston, and Auburn offer organic and natural grocery.. aside from the Farmers Market of course!

Waterville, which is 20 miles from Augusta, has Uncle Deans which is a very nice natural food store. It's not huge like Whole Foods but I've never had any problem with finding what I'm looking for there. Of course, we haven't been there in almost 2 years but I assume that hasn't changed.

I think that there are a couple of good sized natural food stores in Portland, but I'm sure someone who lives there will be able to tell you for certain.

I'm glad that you are still considering Maine

On a recent trip through Maine and the Maritimes, fall of 2006, I found Maine to have a number of organic grocery stores, co-ops, and products. You will find them in not only the locations you asked about, but also in Bar Harbor and a surprising number of small towns along the coast.

We're definitely still considering Maine, and not really considering anywhere else!
We just want to make sure it has everything we need all the way down to my daily kombucha, and since I have that checked off on my list all we have to figure out is how we're going to get there!! I guess I'll have to start a new thread!!

In what ways? Aside from the co-ops and organics that seem to be relatively popular in this state, I really don't see in what other ways Portland is green-at least no more or less then anywhere else. Do you have a link?

It was an article that I read. I don't have a direct link because it was about a month ago, but if you do a google search on Portland, ME green city, it pulls up quite a few results.

I'm so glad that Maine is still your 1st choice. I think you'll be very happy with that decision as opposed to your 2nd choice.

I had forgotten about the Natural Living Center in Bangor. The year that we lived in Hampden I went in there once or twice and it's nice.
