Work In Maine ????
Hi everyone I am just wondering about the job market in Maine. I have been looking for month now for truck driving (my husband) jobs and mechanical engineering(his brother) jobs and I am having a hard time. They don't have the experience that companies are asking for. WE will be UP there in may-June but we cant find a place 2 live with out a job and so my husband's brother is having second thoughts and that is making my husband think if we should go . I really want 2 go and I have plane tickets so there is no going back on that. SO what IM asking is. is it really hard 2 find gainful employment in Maine ? My friends say yes You Have 2 be rich 2 live in Maine and that NH of MASS is better I am not going back 2 MASS and I really don't want 2 go 2 NH . And I don't believe what what my friend said. But we need 2 do something soon and I wont give up on moving 2 Maine.

The job market in Maine right now is not good. I have been looking for a management position in my field, either in Downeast Maine (forget it) or Northern Maine for over a year. Many don't even acknowledge receiving a resume. For your brother, Southern Maine or maybe the Augusta area would be your best bet. Too, Bangor might have some opportunities .

I am moving there soon (Hopefully) and I have been checking for jobs. This would be in the Augusta area. I do see many jobs posted, granted some of them are not what I do now, but I will get what I can take.
I know people are going to think I have lost my mind, but I am moving up there with no job. I am going to bite the bullet and take the chance on finding one. I have to leave from here or lose my mind one. And I need my mind, at least a little longer anyway
Granted, I will have family to live with until then, I will have a little money put back to see me through a few months at the least. And if all fails, I do still have a home here to come back to.
I wish you luck and hope something comes up for you.

It's not a great job market.
Many state jobs are "frozen" which affects not only state offices and departments but also the university system, etc. I would suspect that most if not all of the few available jobs in this sector will be filled by internal candidates despite public job postings.
People already living here have lost jobs - or may lose their job - due to the economy and so these folks will also be seeking new positions.
I think if you're planning to move here and do not yet have a potential source of income, it's wise to be prepared to take anything you can get. Finding what you want and getting it could be difficult.

There's a brand new Cabela's going in in Scarborough. The'll be hiring a lot of people in many different fields.

A limited hiring freeze is in effect. Although recruitment and hiring activities have been curtailed, the Bureau of Human Resources will continue to accept and process applications until further notice.
The opening and closing dates are interesting. I'm not sure what to make of all those positions that have been "open" for half a year or more.
Anyway, large private companies often have better pay rates than the state offers.
