Default Easter Dinner

What will you be doing for Easter dinner? We will be having ours on Saturday with my husband's kids, their spouses and 5 grandchildren. This way they can be home for their Easter egg hunts on Sunday. It will be a busy, fun but tiring day! We will have a ham dinner and strawberry shortcake for dessert.

Tonight my 2 daughters and I went to our church's Tenebrae Service. We shared a simple meal in commemoration of Jesus last supper.
My DW and son stayed home with one of our sheep that's was lambing (she threw a 12 lb ram lamb, and a ewe that didn't make it).
For Easter we will go to the Sunrise Service followed by an Easter Breakfast at the Church and then our regular Easter Service. I am cooking leg of lamb for dinner. Kind of a big day for us.
The kids are looking forward to coloring eggs on Saturday. There is also a community Easter egg hunt put on by the Sunday School, that afternoon.

Happy Easter to you all.

We just finished off the St. Patrick's Day corned beef and now it's Easter already! Lamb is out as I'm the only one in the family who eats it. We had turkey for Christmas and New Years. Had a big Atlantic salmon a couple of weeks ago, it's too early for lobsters, I'm out of Moose meat, don't like goose, duck is not a favorite either. Maybe a ham! Yes ham it is. I'll take a trip to Whole Foods in the morning and see what they have there. Thanks for reminding me! Otherwise we'd be eating pizza.

We will not be having our Easter supper until next weekend, as that is when family is able to visit. Instead, this weekend we will observe the day quietly, just us. It should be a fairly nice day, we plan on spending the day together, some downtime that we haven't had lately. Next weekend will be filled w/ family, friends, and fun. Oh yes, and LOTS of food!!!

Just me, mensaguy, son Thomas and my father for dinner this year, so I'm doing a small ham with cloves and a mustard glaze, homemade scalloped potatoes, deviled eggs, rolls and wine for dinner Sunday evening. My son lives some distance from us so we don't have any other plans than dinner. He's a high school band director and it's All-State and All-County Band time around here.

Quiet day, I expect - I hope! We always have ham with candied sweet potatoes. Speaking of lamb... long ago I once had mutton and developed such a distaste for it, that anything from a lamb/sheep reminds me of it, and I feel sick. I'm sure fresh lamb is excellent, but I think I'm ruined forever of it. I am reminded of the old childrens' jump rope song from Fall River, where my wife comes from. This happened supposedly after Pa Borden forced the family to eat 2-week old mutton stew (days before refrigeration), and daughter Lizzie took matters into her own hands:

Lizzie Borden took an axe
Gave her father forty whacks
When she saw what she had done,
Gave her mother forty-one

Bon appetit, everyone! Happy Easter!

I found a nice half a ham at Bow Street Market in Freeport today. I think I'll make a glaze for it with some of my fresh maple syrup and a little pineapple...should be good!

One of my customers is in Fall River. A bank downtown has a little display case and Lizzies savings account passbook is one of the items.

Happy Easter everyone! Our tradition here is to have a nice Easter spread outside with the neighbors and eat under the oak hammock by the river. We've had a little rain lately, I'm hoping we don't have to move it inside. We all pitch in and take a part of the menu. This year I've got the meat and potatoes....and I opted for a monster whole fresh ham. Just didn't want to go the smoked pink ham route. Besides, the leftovers make great cuban sandwiches! Another neighbor is bringing Pacific Salmon (he fishes in Alaska in the summer so this should be good). The other neighbor is bringing their special asparagus salad with walnuts and blue cheese. My BF is a pastry chef, and does the BEST desserts, which this year is banana & chocolate Charlotte cake. Safe and happy holiday wishes to you all!
