I heard that Kurt Russell is from Rangeley and that him and Goldie Hawn go to Rangeley often. Has anyone else heard that?

My brother in law who now lives in the Portland area went to Lisbon Falls High School with Stephen King. He has told me before that Stephen was kind of a nerd type who probably got good grades but that they were friendly toward each other. He noted that he thought he was a little strange in high school but not in a bad way. We should all be so strange. Wait a minute, maybe we are.

The medical office where I used to work saw several of them and the branch office in Bangor saw several as well.

It isn't at all uncommon to see a famous face wandering around Freeport either.
About two years before he died I saw Jerry Garcia and most of the Grateful Dead in Freeport. They were parked behind the back door of the store I was working in and I opened the door to air out the place and there they were. They had two busses parked there and were just waiting for the rest of the band to come back from LL Bean. I also saw Jackson Browne and James Taylor at Beans and George Mitchell at Filenes when he was working for Clinton as Secretary of State. These were just handshake events.

I saw Kirsty Alley at the Sea Dog Brewing Company in Camden once when she stopped on her way to her place on Ilseboro or where ever it was.

Yup...I heard that is true. Many sightings of them at the local supermarket in Rangely.

Chief Justice Roberts of the Supreme Court was at his home off the coast of Maine when he had that seizure a year or so ago.

Willie Nelson was held up at the Houlton Port of Entry a few years back. It seems when they opened the door on the bus, there was a fairly strong hint of marijuana smoke. When asked if they had any marijuana, Willie said "We done smoked it all"! A few weeks later he was on the Ralph Emery show and said when crossing in Houlton a drug dog hit on some chicken that they had been eating.

A few years ago John Travolta got reprimanded by the FAA for doing a flyover of a place on Mount Desert Island. He was piloting a 727 and buzzed the place less than 500 ft above ground.

The host of Survivor dates (or at least used to date) one of the contestants that was on the show who is from Westbrook. He has been seen with her at Westbrook.

Hershal Walker (of football fame) was dating a girl from Caribou a year of two ago...

and the least goes on and on.

Well, I do feel like the media is way too intrusive.....and I have to admit, I've met "celebrities", and are good friends with a couple, which leads to meeting more "celebrities". And whether or not it's because these people truly are my friends, or whether it's because I don't believe it's anyone's business and I see how this effects them personally, I don't talk about them or our friendships online or anywhere else. It's almost a protective thing for me, and it also feels like bragging when you tell people that you're friends with a "celebrity". It's different maybe when you just catch a glimpse of someone I guess, or know where someone lives.

You're right glimpses or handshakes are far from personal relationships. I wouldn't have mentioned Ray Davies if not for the fact he divorced my friend's Aunt and now we don't think of him as "Uncle Ray" anymore. We know some celebrities in the music industry I would not name, as we would not ever want to compromise their confidence or privacy. My Father in law is also a big political supporter and we have had dinner with some very famous political celebrities whom I will not name. My Father-in law once gave a tour of his properties in downtown Freeport to John Travolta. He asked Travolta what he liked about coming to Maine and Travolta told him he loved the fact that people didn't treat him like a celebrity. Sure he got handshakes and head nods wherever he went but there were no crowds of fans begging for autographs. The check out clerks didn't fawn all over him, he wasn't afforded special treatment in lines or on ferries and he just felt relaxed. Maine people for the most part just have the "Oh it's so and so" attitude and leave it at that. Celebrities( without damaged egos) like that about Maine.

Well, the only celebrities that I have ever met were in Minneapolis. Three musicians and an actor. I worked with the cousin of a Twins player and saw an prominent ex Timberwolves player and two Vikings players on a regular basis. Although the athletes (except one) had an ego about them as well as one of the musicians, no one (fans) really gave them much attention. They were all from Minnesota and it was same old same old.
