It's almost a protective thing for me, and it also feels like bragging when you tell people that you're friends with a "celebrity". It's different maybe when you just catch a glimpse of someone I guess, or know where someone lives.
Good for you MollySmiles!!!! It would appear that the celebrity friends are TRULY friends and you don't treat them any differently. You respect their privacy AND they thank you for it.

I have met Ted Williams a couple of times, once with Bud Leavitt. The Salk(sp,) family, polio vaccine fame, owned an Island up until a few years ago at Moosehead. "Meatloaf" and company would show up at camp nearby a farm we once owned.

Patrick Dempsey owns a house down in South Harpswell, he hangs out at the general store when he is in town and acts just like one of the natives. Nobody swoons over his presence, they treat him like the good neighbor that he is.

In college I worked security for a very high end Mall in Boston. Our book store had many Celebs come through for book signings. We would provide Security detail and escort them through the Mall and such. People for the most part were respectfull. Aside from the occasional nut job. The celeb's were all nice and and hung around and laughed and such. Personally I didn't really make such a big deal out of it. Some guys I worked with started Autograpgh collections.

Walter Cronkite used to sail into Brooklin alot. I believe at one time, when I was a youngun, the Kennedy clan used to vacation at Blue Hill Falls on occasion.

I saw J.J. Abrams eating at a sidewalk cafe last summer, but I didn't stop to try to talk to him. Interrupting a person's meal is rude, and I didn't want to come across as a creepy fan.

Caroline Kennedy used to spend time on North Haven also. I met her in a bank one day....no one else even knew who she was, and they weren't going to cash her check.

I guess it's too hot in Texas for celebrities! Other than being related by marriage to two famous big screen actors whom I've never met, the only thing I'm starstruck over is the nighttime sky! And that depends on the smog covering!

Guess I need to hurry up to Maine and try and spot some of these really cool people! Although, I'm not sure I could see Patrick Sexy (I mean Dempsey) in person and NOT go gaga! I may just have me one of those famous, oldtime fainting lady spells in the middle of the produce section!
