There's a famous sound mastering studio in Portland that does the final engineering on albums for some of the biggest names in music. The performers often come up to Portland to oversee the process, so it's not unusual to see big-name rock stars wandering around the Old Port. Besides the quality of the work they get for their albums, they also like the fact that Mainers respect their privacy even when they're in public.

BTW, another celebrity in Maine --- Jonathan Frakes, of Star Trek Next Generation fame. He's married to Jeannie Francis of General Hospital fame.

I used to work at the FBO at the Bangor Airport. I met tons. The funniest thing was when I was rushing out to go meet a jet coming in.... someone held the door open for me. Short feller mind you. I was told later that it twas Mel Gibson. I was devistated I did not recognize him as it was the year after Braveheart came out. The the best down to earth celebrities flew through there. Never met a bad one. Now ask me about some politicians and you get a diffrent opinion!

John Travolta has a 707 and he did the flyover over Isleboro, where he has a house.

Very true. When I was working at Gritty's in Portland we saw Bruce Springsteen walking around the Old Port for a couple of days. He tried to blend in by wearing a new orange stocking cap like all us Mainers wear all the time. He stuck out like a sore thumb.

OMG, how can we forget Eddie. My cousin won $15 off Dialing For Dollars one day when he was home from school sick.

How about that so called country music show that was on late night? I forget the name of it, but Dick Stacy hosted it. American Idol it wasn't.

We didn't get Stacy's Jamboree in Southern Maine as it was out of the Bangor station. We used to spend just about every weekend in Greenville and one of the guys we visited when we were there ALWAYS watched Stacy's Jamboree. We thought it was just about the funniest thing we had ever seen on TV.

Early version of America's Funniest Home Videos comes to mind.
