I remember the incident of the car turning around in Martha's driveway. It seems it was a group of girls being driven by car service. When they got up to the house area Martha called the police.

Senator Edmund Muskie's mother used to make me biscuits. The good senator brought his Mom to washington for a visit and at a nice Washington function somebody asked her what she did in Maine. She said, "I'm a woods cook." That perplexed the group and they asked what that was. She explained in detail how she cooked at a woods camp and that Teddy Roosevelt had stayed and fished there. I guess that made it OK and they had a fine time.

Humphrey Bogart's father used to take me fishing. I'm really dating myself now.

Senator George Mitchell was asked what made him happiest. He said it was a lobster boil on the back porch of a 3 decker in Lewiston, Maine. That's where he was closest to real people. It was his close and constant connection to real people and what affected them that made him such a successful politician and diplomat.

Ken MacKensie had more semi pro and pro musicians than Stacey's Jamboree. Stacy's let just about anyone on the air which is what made it so comical to watch. It was kind of like "The Gong Show"without the gong!

Re: Stacy's Jamboree

I guess I know a "celebrity". One of my classmates was a regular on that show. His name was Greg or Jeff. Can't remember. It's been 31 years. LOL.

Blocked them in with a vehicle, actually, and THEN called the cops. It was a bunch of women out for a bachelorette party, riding around the island in a limo.

I've met a few people down here in Deer Isle- Mel Gibson, Glenn Close, and Beau and Lloyd Bridges have all filmed movies here, and Mr.DIS was in another movie filmed down here ("Dark Tides") that Christopher Lawford was in as well. I have also met Angela Lansbury and Julia Child- both very nice women. Sal of "Blueberries for Sal" lives less than a mile from me.

JFK and family used to often stop in Stonington when they were sailing in order to attend the Catholic Church there.

One story that I have heard many times over is one from my aunt, when she used to work for her father's grocery in Stonington (Bartlett's Market). She was headed into the deli with a tray of meats that needed to be put into the meat case. As she got near the case, a man began to ask her for something, and she hurried by without lookign at him and told him to "hang on", and when he started to ask again, she got a little snippy and and said "I SAID hang on just a minute!". She was quite shocked when she looked up into the face of her annoying customer and saw that it was Bobby Kennedy.

And PS- Hi everyone- I've been lurking, but unable to log on. Just in case any of you thought I got lost in a pothole or something.

He he.. yes I remember "Stacey's Jamboree". It was "something". Everytime I go into Brewer, I sometimes glance over and smile about the memories.
I didn't have cable back then in our area, but it was channel 7 that always came in clear to watch the show.

Funny we speak of Martha. Her article in her Magazine July 2007 was so condescending to Maine and its people. She said something to the effect that she has to have her staff stock her pantry as everything is a half hour away and very inconvenient. Honestly, who cares about her more than she does herself? Does she realize there are bigger fish in Maine other than her convict tail? All a Mainah can do is shurg and let her be and walk on. I really really did not care for her and her attitude after that article.
