I am looking at moving to northern maine in about 2 weeks, to start looking at property to build on. I know cell phone signal can be iffy at best the more remote you go. I am interested in what people would recommend to get a help boost signal. I have a small Internet shop on Etsy, where I can run it off my smartphone completely. I was curious if anyone had any experience in using these, and would be able to recommend one. My budget would very about $150 at the max, but would perfer to find one around the $100 mark. I also have a phone on the GSM network, using Metro Pcs, phone service. Which piggyback off the tmobile signal.
Thank you for the information
Ryan

It isn't likely that you will find one for $100, or even $150. Last I looked they were running $300+.

Haven't had direct experience with one of these, but have had disappointing results from a product expected to boost FM radio signals in Newburyport (40 miles north of Boston). Based on that, one thing I'd say is that I think the physical antenna and its placement are as important if not more important than the electronics used to filter/amplify the signal.

You could use a cellphone tower search website like: CellReception | Find a better signal.

When you are looking at possible locations to settle.

A huge added bonus to our location is we have a tower adjacent to our land.

I have been researching it, I don't mind climbing up a tree yo place an antenna if need be. But I have found a few that are under $200. But haven't found much in reviews on em.
I have been talking to Roger Ek, abd have a few properties in Prentiss, abd a couple in Amity we are gonna be shown.

Those cell boosters are good IF you have a signal. If your in an area where is NO reception at all. A booster will not help at all. Many parts of northern maine have zero signal. Cell phone companies are not going to build and point antennas at areas where there are no people. Doesnt make financial sense.

That said..... you can use satellite internet pretty much anywhere. HugesNET or Exede.

get a femtocell if you have internet service, it uses internet to convert it to a cell signal, kind of like VOIP/wifi data? (I don't understand the technology)

Sounds like they get the internet from the cell phone so that wouldn't work.
