What do you do to keep active in the winter?
I've read a lot about cabin fever. What do you do to keep active and sane in the winter months?

I have not been through an entire Maine winter yet, but when I have lived in the north previously I - raised livestock
- walked the dog
- took lots of photos
- had KIDS who loved playing outside
- had "potluck" suppers with groups of friends
And now, I want to learn how to cross country ski and/or snowshoe.
Gotta do something to work off the results of the baking I will be enjoying once I get my wood fired range!

d'uh... yeah, how could I have forgotten that! I love shoveling... did all my kids' walks, driveways, aprons... out into the street so the plow wouldn't pile ice on the apron... when it snowed when I was visiting them in Utah. They thought I was nuts too... <g>

Well let's see... I read lots of books, and online articles, I go ice fishing and smelting, snowmobiling, attend Portland Pirate hockey games occasionally,go out for dinner and drinks with DW and friends occasionally, attend school functions, host two winter parties, play my guitar, teach myself piano, work on my tractor and implements when it's not too cold in the barn, work on the house painting etc., go target shooting or rabbit hunting on snowshoes. I'm making maple syrup as I write this and waiting for the snow to melt!

Not a big operation...I just make a few gallons of syrup for family and friends. It's been a good season so far. I have about 2 1/2 gallons finished and about one and a half more on the way. I've boiled a little more than 100 gallons of sap so far.
