Agreed. Most of us have already cut back a lot. We have cut the heat back to where we're cold. It's mid May and we're still having to run the heat to take the edge off the house in the morning.
It sure seems by the responses that people here are more concerned with the price of gasoline in the short term and are WISHING for lower oil prices next winter....me I'm cutting out a lot of fun this summer so we can pay the $6000 for oil next winter.

I can't imagine how much wood I'd have to cut, split and lug to feed a wood boiler! I'm almost 50 now and the prospect of cutting 7-8 cords of wood is a bit daunting to me! I could do it ...I just wouldn't like it...plus I'd have to start tomorrow! How much wood do you use to heat the house?

befor the shop was built we use to heat the house with around 6to8 it stayd around 75 all winter.now with the shop its 14 crd.not bad considering.
but you have to consider your heating cost $6000 for oil or 1600 for wood at 200a crd
and thats cut and split all you have to do is pile it thats 4400 in saveings.
thats money the oil co.not going to get.

It does sound pretty good when you look at it like that. I'd just have to figure in about $2000 worth of beer to quench my thirst from all that stacking and lugging! Fair is fair isn't it?

if this is the case then the price increases shouldn't bother you that much!

a popular misconception held by many. big oil makes money regardless of the price of gas. the only issue i have with them is the fact that they get government subsidies.

there are several reasons why the price of gas has skyrocketed big oil profits have nothing to do with it.
1) increased demand. guess what, a billion and a half chinese and a billion indians also want to drive a car. up until recently most of them have been riding bicycles.
BBC NEWS | Business | World's cheapest car goes on show

when reagan got the saudis to boost production in the early 80's the us and europe where the only nations buying gas. that is not the case anymore. here's a clip of bush trying the same tactic

YouTube - Bush presses OPEC

2)supply issues. non opec production is falling. ghawar(the saudis biggest field) is no longer self pressurized, therefore maturing or running out to you and me. military in iraq is using up a sizeable portion of that countries output.
oil is getting deeper and harder to refine(russia, arctic, oil shale, tar sands)

3)the dollar. when the saudis, or anyone else for that matter, sells oil, the us pays with US dollars. when the US wants more oil, they just create more dollars. being that our currency is no longer backed by gold or silver or any THING, the more you create the less it becomes worth. this is fine while it lasts but eventually exporting countries start questioning this. i watched a programme on converting containers into homes(shipping containers). on the show they mentioned that 10 million containers entered the US last year and 3 million left. i know that this is a simplistic argument but it is a laymans way of illustrating the gigantic trade deficit. in essence we are bolstering the difference with pie in the sky money which they have loads of already and they are watching their huge dollar reserves eroding with the value of the dollar.

so i don't think big oil is to blame and besides if you do think they are, why not put in a call to your stockbroker and put your money where your mouth is. oil stocks!
