i agree with you to a point. i don't however think that there is anything wrong with speculating. the issue i have is that the big speculators can be frivolous with their bets and when it doesn't work out they run to congress looking for taxpayer support or to the fed looking for an inflationary bailout.
a long time ago when my stupid investments didn't pan out there was no-one bailing me out. i don't see why they have to start now. they just end up encouraging malinvestment which the tax payer and dollar saver ultimately pay for
