And you can not prove otherwise.

Oh geez, I don't even live in Maine anymore, but I am pretty offended by your post, and I can bet that a lot of other people don't appreciate the implication that Mainers aren't "normal".
If your attitude IRL comes across anything like it does in this post, I probably wouldn't reach out to socialize with you either.
But if you want some constructive advice, wait until the snow melts. People tend to hole up in the winter, but come spring your neighbors will be, the kids will be riding their bikes in the streets, etc. You may need to be the one to reach out first. Mainers tend to stick to themselves, and it has nothing to do with your out of state license plate. Good luck.

Normal isn't all it's cracked up to be! And if you want "normal".....hmmm......I'm not sure anyone is - thank goodness! Sounds pretty boring to me!
I think the townsfolk are still just sniffing you to see what you're all about and make sure they want to invite you to their sandbox. You're as much a stranger to them as they are to you.
The advice to get involved (from a reasonable distance at first) is a great one. You probably don't really want the party crowd who are usually just fair weather friends till the booze runs out. Take your time, get to know people and them you, and build those friendships that last a lifetime. I believe Maine is a great place for that!

Most people are "worth bothering with", even if they haven't lived through 20 "Maine" winters. There are even some people from "away" that have had interesting (not superficial) lives. Some of them have even lived in rougher conditions than this.
Peel away the mystery, we're all human. That in itself should be a common bond. But hey, what do I know...I've only been here for a little while so my thoughts don't count. Although, last time I checked I was busy raising a family, and there is some thought and planning involved in that.

the definition of partying seems to change with age, 20 years ago,(in my early 20's) i was quite a bit more free, and unreserved, however, the usual parties i went to , involved alcohol,,,
(today) tho i do enjoy a good drink now and then,,i am VERY cautious, of not drinking too much when i have to drive, in contrast 20 years ago, i probly took too many chances, went to too many parties,
im not saying alcohol has to be served to have a good time,,,,but i do find myself avoiding situations, where a few drinks are the norm, and then have to drive home,,
as far as mainers being "normal" good luck with that
"normal" seems to be a moving target based on personal opinion
