I remember the tragedy well. I was 12 years old at the time living in Eliot, right next to Kittery. My dad was the principal of the local grade school. And his best friend was the head of all civilians at the shipyard. Our family knew several of the men who died. Very sad time. 1963 was a tough year that didn't end well either.

Thanks for the link to the article. I enjoyed reading about it again and am pleased that they are honoring the men and families of the USS Thresher.

I have often attended ceremonies tolling the bells in memorial for all of our submarines that have been lost.

It is something we do.
