Question about Lincoln Paper & Tissue
Hello, all! It's been quite a while since my last post, (at least a couple months)but everybody was so helpful answering my questions about Maine, I'd thought I'd try it again. There is a potential job opportunity for my DH at Lincoln Paper & Tissue. I went to the website to check it out, and it sounds like a very succesful company, but I'd love to hear any feedback from people who might actually work there or know others who do. Would you consider it a stable company? A good place to work for? About how long of a commute would it be from, say, Bangor to Lincoln? We've visited Maine only once(and would be sure to visit at least a couple more times before making any decisions), but we know we could handle the winter(we live in WI) and big city life is not what's important to us. If anybody could help me out with any info about the paper mill, I would greatly appreciate it! Thank you!

About 55 minutes.
Lincoln is growing, nice shopping and stuff happening there.
Bangor already is a big shopping hub.
I am not sure that I see a need to live at one and work at the other though.
Many nice towns are between the two.
I live between them.

Winters are not truly that difficult here.
You should be fine.

Lincoln is a nice little place, and has very friendly Emergency Room staff as well. (Don't ask ) Used to be you could smell "Stinkin' Lincoln" before you made it to town, but I haven't noticed that for years now. School staff is friendly and seem dedicated to the school and students the few I have run into. The mill has been there a LONG time and shows no outward sign of leaving anytime soon, so I would bet the employment would be steady and secure. I know a couple of the Mill Electricians and they really like the place when talk about work came up. Wish I could answer a bit more, Good Luck to you and your Family!

We were just through there today and K (who has a better nose than our dog, I swear) commented that he smelled the paper company. But he is VERY sensitive and I would not necessarily put any store in his concern unless you have an over-active nose as well.
It seemed like a growing and truly adequate place to live, if you had a job there.

It is a solid company. They have the only new paper machine installed in Maine in the last 25 years. I worked for the company for several years a few decades ago. The area is outstanding.
Welcome to Lincoln, Maine!

Thank you all! I appreciate your responses. I'm very glad to hear the company is stable. My husband is actually going to apply, so we're pretty excited to see what might happen! One more question: We're not committed to the Bangor area; I was just curious to see how far it might be from Lincoln. Any suggestions on what towns to look into around the Lincoln area(or Lincoln itself)? Our family consists of my DH and I, our 18mo boy, and another little one due to arrive August 1st. What we're looking for: A 4bdrm home on 2 acres or so($225,000 max.), and 10-15 minute drive to a grocery store and other necessities. I love to garden(flowers and veggies), and it would be wonderful to have more than 0.11 acres to work with! Not to mention actually having a yard for the kids to run around in! We just want a home in a peaceful area that's not too far of a drive into town. Any thoughts? Thank you again, and BTW, Northern Maine Land Man, thanks for the link! Very comprehensive! I appreciate it!

I rather doubt that you will find a 4 bedroom home on 2 acres for $225,000 in Lincoln.
But I would not be surprised if you found a 4 bedroom home on 42 acres in the area, though.
You want YARD? Up in Maine, we got lotsa yard!

100+ acres of woodlot on good road just went for $35k near me.
Tack on another $100k and you should be able to get something habitable custom built for you on such a property.
Or look around a bit, maybe find a 100 year old farmhouse with attached dairy barn on 80 acres; for $100k or less.

That's what I was thinking! $22K will buy you a whole lotta real estate in Lincoln.
