So my wife and I are starting the long search of trying to find a place in Belfast to live and have a retail antique store/space. There is a property at 179 Northport Ave, that has been on the market for almost a year. We have inquired online multiple times with real estate agents, with no real responses. What I am hoping to find out is what someone in Belfast might know about the property, the business that used to be there (upholster?), and if there are any major concerns down the road with that area. We know that there was a lot of concern about a salmon farm when we were there in the spring, wondering if this has anything to do with its price and location. We are from the Buffalo area, and looking to make a move before 2021. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

I've encountered the same. Seems most agents don't or wont respond to online inquiries. Not sure why. Make a phone call and see how you fare. Good luck.

There is a multitude of web sites that pirate real estate listings and post them on their own web sites. Zillow is a good example. Most of these sites are loaded with errors. Many times, a listing on on these sites is not even shown in the correct town. They just drop a pin at random on their map. It is sometimes in the correct county.

Contact the listing broker directly and you will get an answer.

You might have better luck contacting the listing agent through the Maine Listings website.

That is one gorgeous property -- although it would take FOREVER to take down some of that wallpaper! (I found it on realtor.com -- https://www.realtor.com/realestatean...0-64138#photo0 .)

OP, what was the concern about the salmon farm?

I would love to buy it although I wish it had more land -- it's on just half an acre.

It's a beautiful home, and for what it is, a real bargain in my opinion. It's a good sized place, and the amount of work and money needed to bring a 1783 home up to that standard, and still preserve so much of the original historical charm, I shudder to think of it.

Just guessing, but there may be a lot of people from far away who daydream of moving to Maine, but never do anything... if that were the case, I can imagine some realtors don't want to spend time on someone unless there are some signs the person is serious.
