Hello. My husband and I are planning a move to Maine, after a pre-emptive search of course. We are looking for info on the best places to move - both our families have lived in Maine at one time or another and all have given the state rave reviews. Our ideal place is 20+ acres with a country feel, an opportunity to grow a great garden, have some chickens and maybe a cow or two and a good site to build a "green" home, off-grid ok. My husband is a school teacher and I am an accountant right now but capable of doing many jobs. We would like to live relatively close to a town where we can both get jobs. Everything else is pretty much negotiable. Can anyone offer up where to start looking? Thanks so much...

Limestone has DFAS and there are always teachers positions available.

I recently purchased a property 10 or 15 miles west of Bangor that is pretty much just what you described. If you'd like, I can give you the name of a person I used as my buyer's agent who was very helpful in locating it. If you want to search on your own, Prudential Northeast Properties has a good website that will allow you to specify search parameters and exclude any properties with less acreage than you want, specify price range, etc.

Real estate prices drop as you move north and east of Bangor. The further south you go the higher the prices for similar properties. Take a look at Lincoln.

Welcome to Lincoln, Maine!
