We are considering buying a second home in Lincoln,Maine. The prices for lakefront homes seem too good to be true.I am from CT and the drive is about 6 hours from me.A little longer than I planned but I think this is why it's so affordable.Any thoughts on the area?Would this be a good investment? We are going to check it out this weekend..Thanks for any input

Lincoln is nice, right up the road from Forest Beekeeper and I. Incidentally, both of our households are also both from CT. (just to clear that up, we live in the same town, on the same street, met here, and became great friends. two different families).

Anyway, Lincoln is quiet. Busy for a little town up here, kind of the hub for that area. It has a McDonald's, a WalMart, a grocery (hannaford), and some other stuff. It is quite nice. Small enough to be a getaway. The real estate prices are very good there, and if you like quiet, and want to be away from everything you know in CT, it's a good place for a vacation home. Whereabouts in CT are you from?

My family is from the Vernon/Tolland/Stafford area, and Forest is from the southern part of the state. Ocean/casino areas.

The ice went out on Mattanawkook Lake today. There was ice shore to shore yesterday. It's a clear, clean and relatively quiet lake. From the east shore to the next paved road is 50 miles through the woods, yet the west shore of the lake is at Main Street in Lincoln.

Lincoln has six banks, a credit union, good hospital and more churches than you can count. Nice town.
