kids activities in calias
Hi. We just got word that a transfer to Calais may be coming. We have 2 small children and I wanted to know what kind of activities are available. Here we have an indoor Bounce World, a WINKIDS (everything in one building ie gymnastics, piano, dance, karate, swimming lessons), a huge indoor maze and arcade. I do not expect to find this many things (it is alittle much) just some ways to entertain when it is too cold to be outside. Any input would great.
Thanks

Wow... that is alot of activities!
Mollysmiles may have more ideas for you then I. I am not really sure just what is in the Calais area for little ones.
For my girls there is activities across the bridge in St. Stephen like bowling, ice skating arena.

It's rarely too cold to go out. On those days my kids were in reading, coloring, watching a movie or <gap> cleaning their room.
I'm trying to think of something similar to what you've listed but I'll be darned if I can think of anything! Hey Mollllllllly!
Welcome to the Maine forum!

You probably won't find all that ANYWHERE in Downeast area.
My kids are going to have to be tied to a chair to keep them inside when we get up there and out of this urban oven where indoor activities are a must!
The thing we are most anxious for is the opportunity to commune with nature and allow our minds and senses to be filled with things of substance for a change. I don't know of any better place than Maine for outdoor activities!

ok, I had an awesome reply written out earlier....little did I realize that DH was moving lines and cords downstairs and I couldn't post it because I wasn't connected to the internet. Turns out that "wireless" still requires a wire somewhere!
Anyway....you won't find those things here. You will find a busy, active community with a great school and recreation department. You won't find parents who organize a bunch of activities for their kids, you will find parents who are willing to let their kids grow and explore in a small town where sense of community and responsibility is strong. We don't do "play groups" much, or "children's day/time" much....every day is like that. Kids are out riding their bikes, playing on the swings, building forts, fishing, skating, running, jumping.....no building where they go to do it all, unless you count the school and rec dept. Too cold to go out to play here is 0, but maybe not---when I was ten years old I'd go ice skating when it was 0! I didn't stay long, but not much kept me inside I'm still that way, so are my kids. They're smart, witty, confident, capable, happy, strong, and so much more. Little towns are amazing!

sounds like the way we grew up. the rec was a favorite place in the summer. swimming lessons were FUN!
puddle jumping, hay bale rolling, bike riding, fort building, horse/trail riding, fire fly catching, camping, rodeos in the summer! snow forts, strawberry picking, apple picking, pumpkins in the fall..and cider too!! i can't wait to bring my kiddos back to new england. *sigh*
(sorry... a trip down memory lane!)
