Cape Cod to Maine
We moved here to Calais and it's not much different with the exception of the economy and the lack of shopping choices.
Here's what we've learned:
Compromised w/ online shopping for the kids at oldnavy.com sales as Walmart clothing doesn't seem to fit my kids. The quality of clothing in there is very poor and what does fit...shrinks after you wash it.
We purchase fresh veggies from local farmers markets/road side farm stands in season or we grow our own. The prices of groceries is very high and fruit is really overpriced and not always fresh. We improvise by eating whatever is on sale in the fruit isle...usually apples/bananas are affordable. We miss oranges! I refuse to pay 7,8,9 dollars for a tiny bag of oranges. Oh..pick berries and freeze em and freeze your kill during hunting season!
I love the fact that you can always count on "NO TRAFFIC"! What a refreshing thought.
Schools leave alot to be desired but ...the kids LOVE it. They can learn by reading at home if they have the urge to study or learn more than the school teaches. Lets face it...if the kids are happy....everyones happy!
A simple submarine sandwich feels pretty empty...more like a "wish" sandwich unless you like lettuce in your sandwich and plenty of it to fill it up. Good news! We improvise by making our own and never eating sandwiches out and we learned to make our own pizza and it's wonderful...pizza prices are very high here. There IS a new pizza place in the Mobil station that offers a one topping large pizza for 7.77...that is yummy pizza and reasonably priced. Great if you're not in a pizza making mood.
DFA shop offers nicer gift items, handbags, scarfs for loved ones....gourmet chocolates, fragrances, makeups and the cost is very low. Quality is far better than Walmart shopping and pricing is lower.
If you don't mind adjusting to the economy..LIFE IS GOOD!!

I was born at the Maine medical center in Portland on a stormy november 1, 1988. I lived for the first six weeks of my life in South Berwick, on Front street near the railroad tracks. Then i moved to Nantucket. I moved back to Maine two weeks ago(Cutler)
The reason I'm in Maine is because of my father. When my grandmother died, it was stated in the will that my father was not to sell the house, but to pass it to me after he passed; but he went behind my back and is selling it anyway.
my friend came to my rescue, by inviting me to come up to maine. When lobster season starts, we'll go lobstering. His property is also going to need to be cleared, so we'll do it.
Moving o Maine made my mom really upset, she told me that I'll never make it there.

Hope you hired some legal help. Sounds like title deed might be in question. Good luck. We were offered land in Cutler but it would have bypassed a direct heir. Doesn't make for good relations.
