Which is better Bangor or Portland?
I've always been wondering which is better to live in, Bangor or Portland? I like Bangor, but that's simply because i live there. Any views? What is it that you like the most about either city? e.g. better schools, better location, more to do, nightlife?

They both have their strong points as well as their weak points. Out of 13 posts so far, you have been knocking Portland in a majority of them. Is this a thread designed just to stir up a flame war or something? We know where you stand already so what is the point of the thread?
Better? Personally I wouldn't give you a dime for either one of them, but that could be why I don't live in them as well. Portland is better for some people, Bangor is better for others, simple.

Unless you need to run to Boston on a frequent basis, Bangor is much better on many counts. You can fish for Atlantic salmon downtown. You drive 10 minutes to hunt. Good airport if you are a pilot, but outrageously expensive for a passenger. Many other recreational opportunities and the government schools don't pass out condoms and pills to junior high kids.

Bydand is correct. It's hard to bulls**t a veteran poster here as you can see. We catch on to someone trying to stir up trouble very quickly. We don't think you actually care a wit about whether Bangor is better than Portland or vice versa. Cities, towns, and villages appeal to different people differently. Just like I don't particularly care for Rumford, Biddeford, or Lewiston for example there will be those who would hate Freeport, (my home town) Bar Harbor, or Greenville. To each his own. I will say I don't like Rumford because I don't like the paper mill. 7TH Generation might say Freeport is undesireable because of all of the retail shops and congestion in the town. I'm not wrong about the paper mill and he's not wrong about the retail crap. I'm USED to the retail shops and 7th is USED to the paper Mill. Neither of those things will negate the good points of an area, though the fact they are there should not be removed from the honest discussion of the respective areas. Nor should they be the determining factor on whether a newcomer decides to live in that area or not.

Sorry, didn't mean to be troublesome. I'd delete this thread if I knew how. Any advice would be most welcome. Thanks.

Yep, we really aren't that bad GoBangor, just seen too many new posters show up to stir a turd and not have much positive to add. Makes one a bit suspicious you know.
