Have you tried the search function on this board? There are many threads here about the pros and cons of Lewiston, so do a search. Personally, for my move to Maine, I am avoiding Lewiston in my housing search, and any area close to it.

I live in Lewiston, its OK, the housing stock is a bit older unless you have enough to build new (my own home was built in 1886).
Job market is pretty diverse, what field are you looking for?
Schools are dominated by Somali immigrant children as there is a sizable somali population.

The only thing Lewiston really has is its cheaper than anywhere on the coast, and had lots of shopping and 2 major hospitals.

Lewiston is in the top five a Maine’s most populated cities
100 years ago it was a powerhouse milltown lots and lots of French Canadians came down to work
You will see Catholic Churches and private Catholic schools
Lots and lots of apartment buildings

I worked in Lewiston 35 years ago made some good friends hard-working French people very proud of their heritage

Like most towns and cities in Maine you can find what you’re looking for there are some beautiful neighborhoods in Lewiston

My son works at a hospital in Lewiston and speaks very highly of the competency of the staff

Lewiston wouldn't be high on my list of places I'd want to live in Maine. That said, while Lewiston's "grungy" reputation isn't entirely undeserved, it is VERY exaggerated. I'd feel safer living in Lewiston than I would in Portland.

If you're looking at the area, don't fail to consider Auburn. If you're going to live in L/A, you gotta see the A.

Auburn is the nicer side of the river, but with higher home prices and much higher property taxes.
The taxes is what killed the merger idea for the 2 city's during the referendums they sheepishly had to admit that Auburns taxes would go down and Lew's would have to go up to make the merger work......
