Default Preque Isle

What can anyone tell me about this town? How is the crime rate? What is the cost of living like? Any information would be helpful.

City Data's stats are here: http://www.city-data.com/city/Presque-Isle-Maine.html

Looks like Presque Isle's crime is higher than some of the smaller communities of northern Maine, but it is still WELL below the national average.

The 1/3/07 edition of the Bangor Daily News (online) had an article about Aroostook County Crime. Turns out that Presque Isle has the worst crime in the County. Houlton used to have that "honor," but crime has been dropping.

Most crime in the area is larceny and burglary. It's mostly drug (meth) addicts stealing to finance their habit.

Points to consider:

The point of the article is that crime rates are going down. It's still a problem, but police said that more people are reporting crimes these days, which helps law enforcement.

"Worst crime in Arroostook County" is still a relative term. It's still one of the safest counties in Maine, and crime in places like Presque Isle don't even compare to crime in places like Boston, New York, or even Portland.
